Merlin had always liked festivals - back in Ealdor they were often the most interesting thing that ever happened, and in Camelot they were an even bigger and more fanstic affair. (Though, he had to admit...this one here was somewhat more impressive than any of the ones he'd seen back home.) So, he'd braved the sun and coated himself with the wonderful sunscreen stuff that a really annoying man who didn't believe in magic had told him about, and went to the carnival.

...Unfortunately, there was a major threat to Merlin's ability to have fun right now. Namely, Arthur. He still hadn't been able to transform back, and so for the past few days Merlin had been forced to carry Arthur around and do everything for him (well...Merlin already did everything for Arthur, but now he did everything even more). And now, instead of being able to wonder freely, he had to carry Arthur around an go wherever the prince wanted.

Sometimes life just wasn't fairBut when an announcer yelled at him, Merlin just smiled and said, "Sorry, not interested." He'd ( ... )

Merlin might want to complain about having to lug Arthur everywhere for the past few days, but his frustration couldn't compare to the anguish Arthur was facing, trapped as he was. No amount of concentration, meditation, or the like had worked for him, and here he was, stick stuck as a sword.

At least as a human he could stick his fingers in his ears when Merlin started babbling.

But, sword!Arthur could still sort-of enjoy the sights of the carnival. Or rather, he was insistent in trying to see them. Camelot certainly had impressive displays, but they weren't exactly on par with this.

Usually Arthur might have happily let a weird stall like the one they were passing by, but he was just an eensy bit tetchy as a sword, and that random shout of 'Fool!' tweaked him in just the wrong way. "Merlin, he has insulted us. Win a prize."

But the voice kept coming!

"FOOL!," and the sound of someone twirling a cane. "Only the Chosen One can win a prize!"

"See? I'm not the Chosen One, so clearly I can't win anything," Merlin said, feeling a somewhat increasing sense of doom.

During her reign, Saber had seen many fairs, though she had not been able to properly enjoy them in lieu of the work of governing. Her appearances had been political; the people needed to see that the King was there. But now that she had been freed -- albeit temporarily -- from her 'life' as a Servant, she had a certain amount of freedom that she had never had after she had pulled Caliburn from its stone and accepted the mantle of Britain's ruler. She almost didn't know what to do with herself.

...
Almost. Saber found various food vendors easily, discovering the stands for things such delicacies as takoyaki -- fried squid balls -- with uncanny accuracy. Yet as she munched happily on her loot, the girlish knight stopped in mid-stride by the shout. Sea-green eyes blinked twice at the downright bizarre scene it seemed to issue from: an empty booth with a collection of odd prizes.

She was certain that, from the fairs she had seen, such booths were supposed to be occupied by vendors.

And lingering in the darkness with a microphone, was Excalibur. He watched the passerby.... pass by before the booth. It seemed he had this girl's attention.

"You there! Step up to the test of fame and GLORY?"

Had it been anyone else, she might have thrown the legendary sword an unamused look; both were grossly overrated. If there was one thing that all Heroic Spirits seemed to share, it was that the cost of becoming objects of worship and lore had been that many of them had led ultimately tragic lives.

But this was Saber, who hid most of her true feelings behind her regal, aloof mask. The stare was an otherwise neutral one.

"How would one achieve such things in a simple carnival?" she asked mildly, as her curiosity had gotten the better of her.

"Fool! Do you not know of my legend?"

The outcome of the game would depend entirely on her answer. And so, he waited.

Yuuri was surprised to find that there was a deserted booth among all the other filled with stall owners and mascots. Slowing as he noticed the music playing in the background, the young Maou leant in to have a closer look before the loud announcement had him flailing back in surprise.

"Eeeh!" He called out in shock. Glancing over to Raenef wide-eyed, the young Maou pointed to himself as he regarded the empty space and asked, "Are you talking about us?"

Raenef had followed Yuuri around the festival contentedly, and blinked when he saw the games booth. He peered when he heard a voice, certain that meant someone must be there? But why was there no line? It didn't make sense? Surely if it was games, it would be fun, right?

"Us? We can play?" he asked, blinking to his friend next to him.

Who were these fools..? Why were they hesitating?

"Fools?" Yuuri parroted in confusion. There was that word again, and he wasn't quite sure why they were being called that. It didn't stop him from approaching though, and with a curious expression, the young Maou asked, "What's the test?"
