Characters: Watanuki and Doumeki Location: Around Holocaust Mall Rating: G? Time: Day 7 [Sunday] afternoon/evening Description: Picnic supplies are needed! From here.
Doumeki's shopping bags were looped over his left arm, his right one still bandaged, but no longer in a sling. The wound was healing pretty quickly, at least, probably because he was getting adequate sleep and food and not practicing archery.
That aside, though, he was looking for Watanuki, generally unconcerned that they hadn't specified a place to meet up. He'd find him, it was really only a matter of time. And not much time. You could, after all, hear him from a mile away.
Glancing around, Doumeki saw the boy stalking through the mall looking around, and picked up the pace, coming up from behind him and holding the package of natto he'd managed to find over the boy's shoulder so he could take it from him.
"Oiy." he said, voice calm, coming around the boy's left shoulder and pointing in the general direction of a hall to the right, "The store with the stoves is over that way."
Well, 'being heard from a mile away' definitely seemed to be the noise level Watanuki was aiming for as he jumped and squawked loudly in surprise at having natto all but shoved in his face. Leave it to Doumeki to not bother to announce himself properly!
Grabbing the proffered natto with rather more flourish than neccessary - he wasn't going to admit to being impressed that Doumeki had actually managed to find any - Watanuki took a breath before aiming to yell even louder than he just had. "Why can't you approach someone normally?! D'you think sneaking up on me is funny? Jeez."
Having got his irritation across, Watanuki pulled a sniffy face, even as he started off in the direction Doumeki was pointing. "If you found a store, why didn't you pick one up already?"
The moment the natto was out of his hand, Doumeki lifted both hands to his ears and inserted his index fingers into his ears, waiting out the storm. Not that he hadn't already lost another level of his hearing when Watanuki shrieked initially.
He simply shrugged in response to Watanuki asking why he couldn't approach normally - to be honest, sneaking up on Watanuki was pretty funny. He flailed and hissed like a cat who had its tail stepped on, but it was fun in its own way.
Falling in beside Watanuki as he started toward the store, Doumeki slouched his shoulders and glanced back and forth at the shops in the mall, shrugging again as Watanuki asked about the stoves.
"You pick something." he said, simply. Mostly because Doumeki didn't know what, exactly, might be needed for an outdoor takoyaki cooking expedition. That was more Watanuki's forté - Doumeki would content himself with paying for it.
"You're carrying it, remember?" he replied sharply, having chosen to let Doumeki's ear-plupping slide for the moment. It would be rather uncouth to start rollicking now that they were in someone's shop.
It was a good thing he did know a thing or two about outdoor cooking expeditions; Yuuko sure liked her impromptu outdoor meals, so it wasn't as though the idea of cooking takoyaki in a park was entirely alien. It was actually kind-of fun to be thinking about how to solve such a normal-sounding problem amidst all of the craziness that seemed to be inherent in this new world.
(Maybe Watanuki was a little grateful to Doumeki for giving him something rather familiar to do. Just a tiny bit. Grateful enough to warrant making double quantities of batter, at least.)
Grabbing the first decent-looking mini-stove he could see, and what would probably work as a takoyaki pan (but was most likely a muffin tin), Watanuki gave a little crow of triumph. "See, even you could have picked this stuff on your own!"
