I suppose it's time to bite the bullet and just put this out here - considering that I'm tired of sitting about while people go on missions -

[ Straight to the point as always, Re-L is up early and seemingly on a mission today. No long-winded thoughts about philosophy here, or existential questions about this or that - the meaning of life - that ( Read more... )

Would you be open to talking a bit about your general personality traits?

If we're moving forward, generally, I'll need some momentum. Pique my interest. Give me something to keep my attention from straying to other matters.

And how the hell would I do that?

I'm not here to entertain you.

Then what, Re-L Mayer, am I keeping you from?

Business for the Watch and Roy, my coffee that just finished brewing..I should probably also get into contact with 004, but instead I'm here talking to you, trying to get on missions because sitting here is entirely and hopelessly boring.

You know that I can't help you get on a mission, by this point, and that only leaves a few possibilities. The one I like best is that you want to be entertained, too, and you aren't as straightforward about it as I am.

At what point does wanting to be busy qualify as wanting to be 'entertained'?

I think it's safe to say that it's that point where acknowledgment of subjectivity is necessary. Otherwise it's a long, tedious, and ultimately fruitless semantic argument that doesn't get us anywhere.

The fact is that "busy" generally implies productivity, and "entertainment" does not. While it is possible for both to occur simultaneously, this conversation is more about killing time than actually making headway in our respective quests for partners. What's left, after "busy" has been ruled out?

[ L, you're speaking her language so much right now and you might not even know it. ]

After 'busy'? Probably sleep. [ You lead such an interesting 19 year old life, Re-L. ] Entertainment has it's place but at the moment it feels rather useless to sit around and hope tapping away at a communicator is going to change much. I would prefer to be out in the field actively doing something.

... What is your weapon form, anyway?

Sleep? Now that's something I don't have time for. I'd rather be busy or entertained.

[Not that he isn't having similar problems feeding his voracious appetite for stimulation in Death City. He's not had success resonating with anyone yet (likely due to the fact that he is still hung up on a certain mass murderer he misses in his own twisted way), and he hasn't outed himself as a detective, meaning that he's spent almost zero time training or working. He has taken copious amounts of notes since arriving, but that pursuit has served his own neurotic compulsions more than any well-defined purpose or objective ( ... )

It's necessary for proper brain function, you may want to pencil that in, somewhere along the line ( ... )

It's not necessary to be concerned. My body has adjusted to it, and my brain has followed suit.

[L is tricky that way. He's had conversation where he's learned everything worth knowing about a person, only to slip away without so much as giving a false moniker or occupation.]

Actually, it did. I got hurt, and so did the Meisters, as I think I mentioned before. While I can't be sure, I happen to have a knack for noticing patterns.

What are you writing down?

I'm not concerned so much as stating a fact.

Hm. That's an odd crux to your situation, to be sure.. [ If she sounds pensive, it's because she is, trying to figure out if it was really worth the risk or not. But hey, if she can survive the dome fall and living with Vincent this might only be a minor thing - ]

Notes. I prefer to at least have notes on weapon forms. More so I can see if there's a sort of.. pattern with powers, or anything like that.

You're going to ask me to try resonating with you, aren't you?

Maybe later. As of right now, though, no.
