It seems I have neglected my use of this network over the past few weeks; There's quite a bit to explore in this city, and even more to learn in the institution's library. However, danger is imminent, and I realize that my skills may be put to better use if applied to the defense of the city ( Read more... )

Ah, I remember discussing this a while ago. Perhaps we should meet and see how we get along- Perhaps over coffee?

Ah, of course. May I ask which associate you spoke with? It seems several people in my world have joined me here.

The city is traditionally located in the middle of a desert, so it is natural enough not to have much opportunity for agriculture. [Hi, Kurama, this is Germany.] As far as I've been able to observe, the city acquires its food from outside sources. We have experienced before a shortage in food, and it was naturally unpleasant.

As for water, there does not seem to be any problems in the city regarding that.

Of course, desert cities rarely have a need for self-sufficiency in modern years.

However, if we have quite a bit of water, it would be entirely possible to engineer a farming industry even in sandy soil if we used sufficient irrigation. Many civilizations have done it in the past when importing food was not an option.

[considers this] You are correct, of course. [chinrub] It is best if we managed to supplement our resources with things that we can grow on our own.

The structure of the city itself makes farming rather difficult, and it is not feasible to work outside because of the madness wavelength and the wild animals. However, I believe small patches of gardens for vegetables would be possible if there are plenty of them. What plants did you have in mind?

There is a large, expansive aquifer that we access to for our water and have a system of wells, aqueducts, and our own water treatment. As for the food, we it is imported from other cities and states. Our location this deep in the desert does make local agriculture a little difficult, but as far as I am aware, we are well stocked for both.

[He doesn't speak up yet, but hi, you're the one in charge, aren't you? Hideyoshi will now listen in, and since he is a nice guy he will switch on his own video function to let you know he's doing so.]

Understandable. If your institution would be amenable to it, however, I would like to propose a plan to ensure the city is self-sufficient, should the enemy choose to use that vulnerability to attack us. The city has all natural resources necessary to sustain desert agriculture.

Are you planning to take over, or something? [ Shush this is a fair question okay? Besides the idea of just conquering this place is kind of appealing and yet not -
