The lion-Half had been using the few hours that had passed between their arrival back from Arizona and the upcoming attack to rest up as good as possible under such conditions. Then, when the time had come he put on his motor blades. This battle was going to be a race, he’d decided and you just couldn’t do it without your machines under your feet. There was only one problem

[they're still stuck in the 4th zone, the Kishin eggs' numbers almost impossible to exhaust. this doesn't bother Stein, personally - he expected it. it does, however, make him wonder about the other zones. the Guests weren't the most reliable - hell, half of them weren't even partnered - but they were the only thing that could keep the city from falling, at this number.

hopefully, they're more busy wasting Kishin eggs instead of being wasted. he hopes.

panting, he pauses on a wall, watching the eggs still fighting for a moment. where was he most needed? was anyone in dire straits, or could he focus on his own battle?

but no, there's a Kishin egg leaping for some Weaponless idiot on a skateboard. god, that's frustrating. he ducks down, hitting the street at a crouch and giving a brutal upper-cut laced with his wavelength - made so much more powerful with Spirit backing him up - into the body of the beast. he pounces on it, finishing it off and spinning on Leo.]

What are you doing? [he only sounds slightly annoyed.]

[It's only been an hour, Spirit thinks. They can last for days, if together, both of them masters of wavelength control and pacing. Spirit is sizing the place up when Leo appears and Stein moves.]

Oh, it's Leo! [One of the people who warned them, formerly one of the people they were punishing. Spirit sends a quick thought at Stein to see if Leo was all right, if he was tired--]

You're partnerless? [And near the zones?]

[Leo instinctively ducks when he sees a shadow leap his way, dropping to a crouch that should have left him tumbling with the practiced ease of a professional sportsman. But before the Half can do anything a second shadow interferes and the half-lion is only left to watch and learn as the kishin egg is finished off within seconds.

Already back up and one foot in the air, he is ready to dash off again when he recognizes Spirit’s voice and stops.]

Hey! Is that you, fail-red? Nice reaction there. [Turning to Stein, he frowns, immediately disliking the way he is being spoken to. Jabbing a thumb at the pair of battered inline skates on his feet, he grins in a way that displays his inhuman fangs.] I’m looking for some gas and am playing messenger for the poor 'n depraved, so ya better don’t shoot me.

John, Rikku, Rose, Future Karkat [CLOSED] [RESIDENTIAL DISTRICT 2] [~12 AM]

[It's shortly before the kishin make their way into the city, and John is standing nearby the Creeping Crypt next to two girls -- his partner and one of his very best friends. It could be the beginning of a really awesome hang-out!! Unfortunately, it was midnight and past when John would be sleeping anyways. And also, y'know, the city was being invaded. That put a damper on any hypothetical plans!

He's looking tense, because while he's fought monsters in SBURB, and saw other guests go insane on Halloween, he's never actually seen a kishin in person before. He was confident that Rikku and he could handle whatever came their way. He knew they would be fine, but there was still that annoying little nagging bit of fear because -- why hadn't Rose just gone to Shibusen? They were good people, and she would definitely be safe! John would try his best to protect her -- and he definitely will do just that -- but still, it was all really silly and-!

His thoughts are interrupted with the sound of... uh. Something. Something that didn't

[Rikku bites her lip] Probably. Oh man oh man I really don't wanna repeat of Halloween. [Halloween was too much like all the times back home she saw Sin's destruction. Do not want] Pleaaaaaaaase let this be easy...

[Rose hadn't gone to Shibusen because Shibusen was a parcel of incompetent idiots; staying in their care would be akin to putting one's life in the hands of an amputee at a boxing match. That wasn't what was causing her very noticeable frown, however. That award went to the fact that she was in this situation at all. Did John really think she needed to be babysat? And what was the deal with him dragging her out here after she'd refused to go to Shibusen? As if she were some kind of helpless damsel.

Whatever. She could take care of herself, even if at present it would be in more of a backup position. If John thought she'd stand around and watch him and his partner take out monsters he was even more brain-damaged than she'd originally thought. Rose fingered the knitting needles smuggled out of her apartment in her pocket as she replied.]

Repeat implies the replication of an event. I highly doubt that kishin are going to leave the city as intact as berserking guests.

[And he glances at Rikku, who looks... well, she probably feels as nervous as he does! And Rose is... Rose. He wouldn't be worrying over her if he hadn't heard all those warnings about how dangerous it was to not have a partner, because he knew that Rose wasn't exactly fazed easily, to put it lightly.

But then the noises over the wall, which are sounding more like growls by this point, start growing louder, and there's definitely the sound of something climbing over -- fast. John reaches over and grips Rikku's hand -- half for convenience for when she transforms, and half for the friendly support.]

Don't worry, Rikku! Rose is right, we can beat these things! We are together this time, and we are definitely going to kick their asses, heh.

[There is an inhuman shriek followed by something dark and long getting hurled past the sun god, barely avinding smacking him in the face before it connects with the wall.]

[The meteor chain starts glowing with the absence of light before it even hits the ground and the next moment there is Hades, more than a little dazed by the direct hit that he had just taken.]

[That, dear grasshopper, is a notably stupid question.]

Finding trouble. [ ...ow. ]

[CLOSED.] Suzaku and Yugo ; Shopping District ; 12:30 a.m.

[he knew his assigned location, but tracking a kishin egg had brought him through quite a few paces (away from his partner, too, the dust kicked up being too much to see through)-- and quite a few bruises, too, as debris and seemingly random attacks flew from everywhere. it was difficult to stay out of other people's way, but he did his best: up until and including the point where the kishin egg he'd been tailing decided that enough running was enough and had turned around, giving Suzaku just enough time to dive behind a fallen Death-Mart's wall before a tentacle snapped straight into the ground.]

[this was... probably where having a partner was a perk, Suzaku decided. he could try turning into a dog, maybe -- anything to help, really, but would it actually help?]

[... well, first, he'd need to find someone who wasn't just as busy as him. that would be helpful.]

[Never mind the fact that he had no partner! Yugo figured that he could stand a chance against the kishin eggs on his own. After all, how hard could they be? He just... well, he just hadn't expected there was going to be so many of them.

He had been running around the district to see if anyone had been left behind during the evacuation. But as he was running past one of the ruined Death-Marts he caught sight of a kishin egg attacking someone and skidded to a stop. He narrowed his eyes and rushed forward in front of the monster, unafraid.]

Hey! You better clean that up!

[Suzaku had just been ready to start his incantation when that voice hit him; him and the kishin egg, it seemed, since the monster did actually stop.]

[while it looked, Suzaku looked - and gaped for just a second, before gathering his wits again (kind of) and standing up, out from behind his 'shield.']

-- W-wait, are you--?!

[Yugo looks back and gives a huge smile, totally unconcerned and nonchalant.] Don't worry, I got this!

[He doesn't bother to wait for the guy's answer. With a shout he leaps up at the kishin, aiming a kick at it.]

Damn.

Kid realized for the first time how hard it was to defend the city while protecting it with your soul at the same time. He knew he couldn't attack from the outside, but if he could at least destroy the kishin eggs right after they manage to get inside, he could perhaps save people and energy that way.

But this wasn't the only issue. Using his soul to protect the city drained energy. While he had finally gotten use to doing so, he still wasn't ready to fight this huge scale raid at the same time. It wasn't going to be easy, that's for sure.

However, he had to. He couldn't let more people die after so many have lost their lives already. The guests, the citizens, his friends... He had to protect them. This would be a painful battle to fight, but if he could save even one person, it would be worth the injuries.

With Patti and Liz in hand, he ran off, killing as many kishin eggs as possible along the way.

"Damn" Luke cursed to himself. "This city is so confusing." He turned yet another corner, having an odd feeling that he was headed more towards the outer limit of the city than into the inner districts, which was where he intended to go. It didn't help that he had lost track of time and it was now after midnight, which meant that the attackers were already here.

He did his best to stay out of sight from those who were battling, getting a good look at the 'Kishin Eggs' and feeling his stomach turn. He really wasn't prepared to be out in this area, he figured he could handle the inner districts, maybe not have to face so many of these things, but out here he was a walking target.

He turned yet another corner... and came face to face with one of the Kishin Eggs, the shear terror making him freeze in place.

Before the Kishin Egg could attack Luke, two stray bullets came flying out from both sides of Luke's head. They managed to hit the kishin egg right in the eyes, causing it to keel over in pain. Before it could rise up from the ground, a voice came from behind, yelling, "RUN!"

That voice belonged to the young shinigami who happened to see that the guest was having trouble. Originally, he was going to aim higher to attack that Kishin Egg, but... Luke was kind of too tall so Kid couldn't see over his head very well.

Luke's eyes went wide as those bullets flew by on either side of his head, only realizing what had happened as the Kishin started to fall. Hearing the voice Luke spun around, eyes still wide, as he took in the young shinigami before him. He was very confused with everything going on but nodded and started to move away, not thinking to look behind him at the creature he had been facing.

In his failure to keep watch on his surroundings he didn't realize the Kishin had been moving until it's hand reached out and wrapped around his leg, tripping him and dragging the young noble towards it, garnering a surprised yell from him. The sudden attack got his body moving as he kicked at the hand holding him, his hands going up to try and pry it off when it was clear the kicking wasn't working.
