The world is a vampire, sent to drain. )
Kid realized for the first time how hard it was to defend the city while protecting it with your soul at the same time. He knew he couldn't attack from the outside, but if he could at least destroy the kishin eggs right after they manage to get inside, he could perhaps save people and energy that way.
But this wasn't the only issue. Using his soul to protect the city drained energy. While he had finally gotten use to doing so, he still wasn't ready to fight this huge scale raid at the same time. It wasn't going to be easy, that's for sure.
However, he had to. He couldn't let more people die after so many have lost their lives already. The guests, the citizens, his friends... He had to protect them. This would be a painful battle to fight, but if he could save even one person, it would be worth the injuries.
With Patti and Liz in hand, he ran off, killing as many kishin eggs as possible along the way.

He did his best to stay out of sight from those who were battling, getting a good look at the 'Kishin Eggs' and feeling his stomach turn. He really wasn't prepared to be out in this area, he figured he could handle the inner districts, maybe not have to face so many of these things, but out here he was a walking target.
He turned yet another corner... and came face to face with one of the Kishin Eggs, the shear terror making him freeze in place.

That voice belonged to the young shinigami who happened to see that the guest was having trouble. Originally, he was going to aim higher to attack that Kishin Egg, but... Luke was kind of too tall so Kid couldn't see over his head very well.

In his failure to keep watch on his surroundings he didn't realize the Kishin had been moving until it's hand reached out and wrapped around his leg, tripping him and dragging the young noble towards it, garnering a surprised yell from him. The sudden attack got his body moving as he kicked at the hand holding him, his hands going up to try and pry it off when it was clear the kicking wasn't working.

His voice is low, but he's confident the Shinigami can hear him. Stein is panting, sweaty, covered in blood - but he doesn't mind. This is exhilarating, yes, but, more importantly, it's work. It's his job to help protect the world from Kishin eggs, and he doesn't see it as a chore.
He can feel the strain pouring off Kid as he swings Spirit over his shoulder, blocking a particularly vicious set of claws, and spinning to block it again, pushing it back. It's not really something he feels in his soul - he can barely see Kid's soul, and he's not focused enough right now on the sky to at this time - it's simply such an obvious physical feeling that he almost feels drained as well.
There's a temporary lull in the fighting, the eggs slowing just slightly before regrouping on zone 4, and Stein allows himself a glance at Kid.
"We can't afford the loss of another Shinigami."
He knows Kid knows, but he feels obligated to speak up. Don't push yourself too far is the undertone.

"Hey, Kid, you doing all right?"
I should be his weapon, Spirit thought mostly to himself, but it's out loud and Stein would probably be able to hear it. But we're not efficient. Not yet, and not for a while. Kid was too young and Spirit not really symmetrical enough. Should we stay here and guard him? he asked uncertainly, wanting to protect this Shinigami because he hadn't been able to protect the other, but at the same time knowing that it was a better use of their time to leave Kid be.

Once Kid knocked down another Kishin Egg that was roaming in the area, Kid turned to face the two deathscythes. He was surprised that they were able to run into each other like this, but was thankful to see that they were alright. He wasn't sure if Shibusen could win this war without the two of them. Kid nodded at them both, and answered both of them with one sentence.
"I can still fight."
It's true that they couldn't afford to lose another Shinigami. However, could he seriously just sit back in the office and watch these monsters ruin the city? It was dangerous, sure, but he was not content with doing nothing while people from other worlds were fight this war for them. It wasn't even their war to fight, but they were fighting!
So Kid could fight, too.

He slashes at a Kishin egg leaping for Kid, grabbing it with the blade and crashing it to the ground before unceremoniously slicing its head off.
We can stay here. For now. He can feel Spirit's guilt, and more than a little worry, and he doesn't mind keeping here. There are plenty of ruined souls to mow down anywhere in the city, anyways.
He focuses on Kid for a moment, raising an eyebrow before being distracted temporarily by a hissing monster. "Don't be afraid to pull back if you need to," he murmurs, cutting the legs off another leaping Kishin egg.

He won't pull away, Spirit thinks a little woefully. He's not as wise as his dad had been, and also a lot more straightforward. That was why Kid was charming, in a crazy, obsessive sort of way. But he was his father's son, and this their kingdom.
