The tl;dr Notes on
Something [Akame].
Wasn't going to type tl;dr notes. But I guess it's long enough and I freak out a little when what I write is misinterpreted, so here we go! If you were wondering. There is something. It's there, hidden, but sort of undeniable to the two of them once it reaches the surface.
The whole fic isn't really polished. There’s no real backstory and no real time setting for the present, so everything's sort of ambiguous and vague.
So to explain their dialogue:
There was a relationship before. And it was broken off-ended mutually because of circumstances-other obligations and responsibilities that took precedence over whatever they had. They probably agreed that whatever they had was nothing, was over, and fallen apart. Forgive and forget and move on.
Which was fine and dandy until the fic began and there was UST. They are physically attracted, which is sort of like playing with fire. Because it can lead to deeper things which they are sure won't work because they've already tried. And in the beginning, especially the beginning, things are very awkward because they are both very afraid and aware of what it can lead to.
But as the fic goes on, they become less cautious. Then they find themselves caring, and independently, find out what they thought had become nothing then never really was nothing. Basically, their fall out wasn't so much a lack of interest as it was what I mentioned earlier: obligations, responsibilities. They just hadn't been aware of the fact.
And so, they know it's something. But it's not allowed to be. So they have to let it go or else it'll eat away at them. Kame is trying to keep himself and Jin from heartbreak by saying, "No!" and trying to convince himself that this can't be done, but Jin forgets all of this until the end. Until Kame reminds him of then and tells him that it won't work the way that he wants it to.
Jin can't really deny it, sees things Kame's way. They have something that they can't manifest without repercussion, punishment, or a lot of sacrifice.
Which goes basically unsaid throughout the fic. It's alluded to, maybe slightly, but that's all. But that's what I was thinking as I wrote it.
