Watson/Murray pic - Snuggle With Intent [Within Tent ;-) ]

A project I've been working on, in dribs and drabs, for a good few months now, and finally decided to Post And Be Damned. Partly in penitence for the recent long absence in which I've been unable to do very much posting or commenting.

Afghanistan, 1879.

That is incredibly sweet and wonderful and just plain awesome. Ah, that moment of a peaceful interlude before the hell of battle. Very, very nice. I quite like it.

And are those dancing men in your signature?! Woo hoo!

Lovely work!

Thank you so much! (I thought they deserved at least one peaceful snuggle-session before all hell gets let loose on them, and the red pencils are applied with a vengeance. ;-) ) I'm so glad you liked it!

[grin] Yep, that's my initials in Dancing Men.

I do love your icon, BTW - Watson looks so endearingly perplexed... :-)

Re: Too cute! sospan_fach July 31 2008, 17:32:36 UTC
XD ! Absolutely.

The Victorian Army Experience: bursts of terrifying periods rather too full of incident, punctuated with long, tedious stretches of "hurry up and wait". And rushing to refuel on tea at the drop of a pillbox cap.

Cheers! I feel I'm atoning for past mistakes. ;-) (Probably making a shed-load of new ones in the process, mind, but oh well...)

Research is definitely progressing. Still frustrating, but I'm only a few paydays away from getting my eager little paws on 'The Road To Kabul' and 'My God, Maiwand!'... Garen Ewing's 2A-AW site has been a fabulous resource, too.

Aww, it's so beautiful and snuggly, and the hair and bag and clothes and everything are ace :D

Cheers! Ta. (I am glad you mentioned the bag: making it all shiny, squashy leather was, for some odd reason, one of the most fun parts. XD )

I also owe you much thanks, BTW, as I used your latest a/w as a model to copy for the face shading, which is one area I'm particularly hopeless at. :-P (Admittedly, mine's very tentative in comparison, but you should have seen them before I did that...specklier than Teh Notorious Serpentine Metaphor. :-P)

It's hard as hell to draw a decent face if you're drawing the whole body, though, unless you have a huge piece of paper. I say don't worry about cutting off parts of the body, some of the best art is done that way. Also, backgrounds are sometimes best just hinted at, to keep the attention on the figures, which is what the picture is about. Give Murray a few lines to resemble a box he's leaning against and that'll be plenty.

I am totally in <3 with your detail and accuracy!

What, you mean you weren't aware of the fact that Murray's such a superlatively charming bastard he can even persuade the laws of gravity to look the other way? ;-)

Seriously, he definitely does need something to lean on, yep. Box would be good. :-) I mean to return to it at some point and finish the background - good call about keeping it light, that'll certainly help.

Completely agree re the faces - I always start with the faces and then move on, rather than drafting it out properly. (Tried the other way round, and it never seems to work...) Need to rectify that (or start buying A2-sized paper, indeed ;-) ).

And cheers for the compliment! I was rather pleased with this work.
