A project I've been working on, in dribs and drabs, for a good few months now, and finally decided to Post And Be Damned. Partly in penitence for the recent long absence in which I've been unable to do very much posting or commenting.
Afghanistan, 1879.
In which Assistant Surgeon J.H. Watson (AMD) and Corporal M. Murray (AHC) find themselves with an

It looked horribly unconvincing in the draft. I am just so relieved nobody has yet commented "Err...WTF is Watson doing holding a random dismembered amputated limb?!" ;-)

Lovely print, great work! It's nice to see these too after a respite.

Cheers very much indeed! [I am so very happy I made you squirm, my fellow ally in the Society of Orderly Appreciation. XD ]
I cracked up at your comment on Watson's hip angle - see, I finally finished the pic insanely early in the morning, looked it over through bleary eyes, and only then suddenly thought: "Damn me ;-) Good Heavens, Watson looks positively coquettish lying so...I never really saw that... But, mmmm. I kinda like it." XD
I know [my] Murray's a randy & duplicitous wee buggar, but I like to think I caught him in a rare moment of tenderness. Keep him away from Jack? [Briefly entertains that particular mental image...fans self rapidly... *ahem*...] Good lord, woman, only because they'd be going at it incessantly like two frenzied Duracell Bunnies whilst Watson stands tapping his foot impatiently in the corner. ;-)
(Incidentally, I can not get that Capt. Jack macro of yours out of my head. He is definitely going to be the Murray-model for the future ( ... )

Many thanks indeed for the compliment! Those re-enactment photos were a Godsend, specially for Murray. :-)

I've got my hands on "The History of the Army Medical Department" both volumes, if you want to trade research.

The clothes: Esp. Watson's jacket toggles, Murray's braces, rumpled shirt (& hint of drawers!) & bootlaces.
Their expressions: Even smarmy Murray looks quite content as he brushes his lips against John's forehead. Watson's descended to blissdom.
Murray's gangliness: Um, that elbow reminds me of someone sinewy ... hmmmm, who could it be?
Great pic! Thanks for sharing it!

The toggles & braces were fun to do, I admit. Really pleased you liked the shirt, as that took a lot of work, but was worth it. (I have this odd fangirly thing about crumpled shirts, especially with the sleeves rolled up...)
And do not be alarmed, the normal moustache-twirling, Cad!Murray service will be returning shortly. (Bless him.)
[grin] I can't resist the, as you say, gangliness. It's terribly endearing. (Watson can confirm it also makes him terribly flexible, too. ;-) )

I have a few bits on dhoolie-bearers, though they're scrappy - odd bits of stuff that turned up en route along persistent Googling, and chiefly references to Wellesley's Indian campaign and the Mutiny era. (And most of those seem to be concerned with the dhoolie-bearers doing a spectacular "Sod this for a game of soldiers!" and buggering off. ;-)) Found a nice engraved pic of some in the 2AW from the Illustrated London News, however.
You're very welcome to all of it - send me your email address (mine's watson[at]jezailbullet.plus.com), and I'll sift what I've got into something vaguely representing a kind of order to send. :-)
You're doing Watson/Murray for the c&c Beeton Off, aren't you? Can't wait to read that! :-D

Hurrah! Murray's leg looks a bit odd in that position, but I love it! It's like extra-funky cuddling. I also really like the edges of the bag, they stand out. Don't worry about the cup, they just discovered that espresso was fashionable before the rest of us! I'm impressed that it doesn't look dirty and smudged, my monochromes always do. I need to stop writing sentences with commas in the middle. I also need to go to bed. Night!

Seriously: yep, I know. [wry smile] However, echoing what I said earlier, so long as it looks like it's attached to him somehow, that'll do me!

Next pic: Corporal Murray and His Amazing Steampunk Portable Coffee Percolator. XD (I had Zulu on last night, and did notice that the tin water-mugs the AHC were using were actually fairly small. Not quite as small as the one in the pic, admittedly, but pretty damn dinky. So I feel semi-vindicated.)
Thank you for the bag-lurve! :-D [whispers: if the light/photo had been better, it would have looked dirty and smudged :-P]
