I realised on Sunday that faith expects things according to the Word of God - that is, what he has revealed about himself. It's really easy to not expect anything, and to think that the fact we receive nothing is evidence we were right to not expect.. but anyone who comes to God must believe that he is good and that he rewards those who diligently ( Read more... )

Mngh. So many things I'd like to respond to, and I'm not sure if I should. ^_^

...though I must admit I'm curious about what a more detailed explanation of your disagreement with the video I posted would be. =)

Hehe, I thought you might say something, because I suspected you probably wouldn't agree ^^ .. I just don't think the video was accurate ^^ But then, I suppose not many jokes are.. they're usually exaggerations of some sort! From what I've seen of creation science it's not really the way the video presented it.. in that the theories aren't the same, they're different.. but I suppose to anyone who is a naturalist, anything involving things outside the natural world can look silly, no matter what is said in its defence ^^ Feel free to comment on what I wrote, but it wasn't really an argument, just some thoughts and feelings since the weekend that are influencing my life atm ^^ Interested to hear what you have to say, but not likely to debate anything! ^^

Right, gotcha. I'll try to keep my Argumentative Atheist side under control. ;)

The problem here might be that there are several varieties of creationism - the one the video seemed to be making fun of (in the second half, at least) is Old Earth creationism, which basically agrees with scientific theories on the age of the Earth and the evolution of life but still inserts an active creator somewhere far back on the timeline. (Of course, there are subdivisions of OEC that might differ on the particulars.) And then there is Young Earth Creationism, which really does basically boil down to "Magic man done it", without any science in the mix. ;)

Yeesh. I actually went over the character limit. 0.0 Here's the rest:

Even so, he listens to our requests, for this is the nature of friendship.

And yet life continues to be like The Onion, except without God actually appearing or responding - except, apparently, in the heads (or, better yet, "the hearts" - since cosmic truths are, of course, easily and unambiguously communicated through emotion) of some of the people that already believe in him. Rather like Zeus and Santa Claus and Grandma Sally ( ... )

And I don't think questions of the supernatural are superfluous because they deal with issues of the present.. sure, there is heaps of stuff we dont know, but we'll die before we ever know it all (if we ever do), and history has shown that technology is certainly no precursor to kindness or compassion. Knowledge about the world doesn't necessarily equip someone with the skills for life, but I suppose if it did the more we knew the more kind we'd be, which is sadly not the case. Once again, while knowing God gives you what you need, knowing God isn't about getting what you need. Knowing God is never superfluous because he exists.. that would be like saying that knowing you is superfluous because I haven't learnt about the whole universe yet. Of course I haven't, but that doesn't change for one moment your existence .. so I'd rather know you while you're around =P ( ... )

BTW.. good to see you around more ^^ Missed you ^^

Yeah, good to see more of you again, too. Been a bit of a difficult time for me, but I'm getting back on track. =)

though I will say, there is more to young earth stuff than you suggest...

Hey, don't just say that and leave it like that. Now I'm all curious. ;) Where is the science in young earth creationism?

Miracles and such.. or course, depend on faith. For a person who has no faith, they should not expect a miracle.

I'm not holding my breath for a miracle. I'm just pointing out that they don't seem to happen for anyone, no matter how much faith they have. =)

However there are many medically documented miracles in many churches (and other places) all over the world.. the problem with these is many prefer to ignore them, but they still exist.

...if I had a penny for every time I heard this claim... >_Give me some examples. Not "my friend heard this happened to X", not "my pastor told us about Y", not "But everyone knows this!" - do you have specific cases you could refer ( ... )
