When Monty and Ethel get all bitchy with each other (Monty usually being the instigator), I usually just give 'em a taste of the squirt gun. That calms 'em right down (because they're too busy running away and then giving me the Stink-Eye to harass each other). :p
Yeah, a squirt gun works well to break them apart, but it doesn't stop them from fighting again and again and again....
What I've been doing after it happens is putting Jango in our bedroom and shutting the door. We've got a window-cushion-thing for him that he loves sleeping on, or looking outside, so I let him sit there for a while to help restore the peace.
Of course it overlooks the backyard, and the gray cat was outside again this afternoon...luckily Phaedra didn't see him, because her tail fluffs out and she makes a whiny-growly noise indicating she is really upset. Jango just sort of glares at him with his cute little mad-face.
It drives me crazy when people let their cats roam all over!!! We have about 3 who are always in our yard, getting in our garbage and sitting in my beautiful flower bush (no idea what it is but it attracts butterflies and has the most beautiful crazy looking spiky purple flowers.) They always drive our 3 cats crazy (Spooky, Riven and Jinx) Our 3 don't fight much, usually its Jinx and Spooky once in a while and I just separate them for a while. I tried the water thing and it worked great for years until they learned to like it. My cats are evil!!
Yes it's driving me nuts too. Yesterday I had to chase it out of my yard TWICE because he was stalking the chipmunk eating the peanuts I left out. Fortunately the chipmunk ran inside the drain pipe. Still, I'm hesitant to fill my birdfeeder which has been empty now for a week because I don't want to attract that stoopid cat back into my yard.
I don't mind the fact that it sits out in its own yard, even though my cats can see him and stare at it or start "patrolling" the house; what angers me is that the people who let it out don't even keep an eye on it to make sure it STAYS in its own yard.
