the camel costume

Back in 1983 I was still really little and my sister was in 6th grade. For Halloween that year, Steph and Erin were a camel. Mom made this really awesome costume for the two of them and I was dressed up as a little camel boy. The three of us participated in the annual Oakmont/Verona Halloween parade. While I don't remember much about the parade, I could show you all a home movie clip if I can find it. ^^;

Again because I was little, I'm not exactly sure how this began, but someone from Saint Thomas Church called our family to borrow the camel costume for their Christmas pageant. Every year they would call, dad would get the box out of the rafters and the costume would be loaned out. Eventually mom and dad decided to just give the costume to the church.

On the 16th, I followed dad around for the annual Oakmont Choir walk. One of the stops was St. Thomas'. On our way out dad asked if they were still using the camel. The priest smiled and said "Oh yes!" The service with the pageant would be on Christmas Eve.

So come Christmas Eve, Dad, Steph and I headed over to the church to watch the festivities. It was a nice service and the children in the pageant were adorable.

The pictures were taken by my Dad

I would have enjoyed it better if my health hadn't been spiraling downward, but it was so nice to see the costume after all those years.
