Baptism prep should make you happy...

I just finished doing a Baptism Preparation session with some people that I knew from high school. The mom of the baby to be baptized, and the godmother (her sister) were both in music groups with me, and it was really nice to see them. Yeah...I know what you mean. My sister got married in Aruba. The recpetion is tonight. She was talking about having someone come and do a blessing. At first, she said a priest, and then she said, "no, not from the Catholic church". Then she started talking about baptisms if she has kids, and since I don't really feel the need to be pastoral with my sister, I was more blunt about it (although not quite as blunt as the girlfriend above). My point was more that, it's okay if you don't want to go to church, if it doesn't mean that much to you, but why baptize a kid if you're not going to raise them in a church. I mean, really, what is the point? I guess maybe you and I differ in that I think that it's fine if people don't believe or don't care, but I kind of get offended as a believer when people who really don't believe want to baptize their kids. Or maybe it's just that they know they need it, that they need something, but unforunately, they never had the experience of God or the experience of a real faith community. And I ( ... )

Ray has a real gift with coming up with ways to say things to teenagers (whih clearly comes in handy, since he works with them so frequently ( ... )
