[Sirius wasn't able to turn away until Remus finally climbed back in the window to the dormitory. He was frozen there, wondering what had just happened. It-- did they?-- it couldn't end like this. Not here. Not like this.]

[The next thing he knows, his bike is roaring to life and he's leaving the Academy, riding through town, and then riding

[James comes in from school, he's spent the full day there. He sprawls beside Sirius and waits for him to wake up so he can give him a hug]

Uh huh, that pillows looks half dead

[sonofthestars]

Better the pillow than you. [The pillow was also slightly damp from the tears he swore he wouldn't cry. But it smelled like Remus, and if he had to go around finding things to hug because Remus had leaned against it for an entire movie night, then so be it.]

I'm more likely to survive than the pillow though

Pillow's fine. [Sirius is getting grumpy now. He wishes James would stop pushing it. He likes his damn pillow.]

[James falls silent for a bit] so want to do something after you sleep?

[sonofthestars]

What were you thinking?

[prongs_jamesp]

Anything, we could go for a run, for pancakes, watch something

[sonofthestars]

A run. [Pancakes would mean he's have to talk, he won't be able to concentrate long enough for a movie, but maybe a run would help clear his head a bit.]

[prongs_jamesp]

Great.I'll be here while you sleep

[sonofthestars]

Okay. [Sirius takes a deep breath and after a moment falls asleep again, his arms automatically relaxing and loosening his hold on the pillow.]

[prongs_jamesp]

[James lies with his eyes shut and just chills out with the radio on courtesy of his wand in the background]

[When Sirius wakes up again an hour later, he's over the pillow and the sleeping and he restlessly pushes it away, unintentionally including James in the shoving until he's turned and sitting properly on the couch. His eyes are red, but more from lack of sleep than crying, and they itch terribly, which makes him want to go mad as he rubs them furiously, trying to clear away the exhaustion and tiredness. He knows they're still red and swollen though, and in an effort not to let anyone see them, or him upset, he shifts until Padfoot is sitting on the floor.]

Okay not quite the run I had in mind [James says getting up from his half slipped off position on the floor and running a hand over Padfoot's head]

[It hadn't been Sirius' intention either, but now that he'd already changed, he wasn't going to change back because James would want to talk, and Sirius wasn't going to talk about this right now.]

[For possibly the first time ever. Or second, if you counted right after the Incident, Padfoot moves away from the petting hand and stays just out of reach. For the same reason he hadn't wanted to be cuddled or hugged, he doesn't want to be petted. It's just another thing James would want to talk about, and another thing Sirius knew he wouldn't be able to explain. So for now, there's a Padfoot looking at the door.]

One sec [James vanishes into his room and changes in to a tracksuit. He comes back out and shrugs off a puzzled expression and opens the door] Race you to end of the road
