apparently china recently changed their electrical output to be more compatible with western gadgets, but some of the plugs are still a different shape from ours.

so, our dad managed to confuse the hell out of my mom by asking for an adapter with

"two prongs in, three prongs out."

Well, actually, there are places where two prongs would not fit into three holes, because in US the prongs are flat, while in Europe, the prongs and holes are often round. You can sometimes find similar prongs in US in appliances, such as a deep freezer (-84*C).

lol yes of course, you're right. i realized this when I thought about it more. regardless, i think asking for a "two prongs in, three prongs out" adapter at your local hardware store would probably get you some weird looks. but when I saw the outlets, I saw that chinese have done a good job of accomodating both american three and two prong plugs.

if i were a chinese power outlet strip, i would be identity confused. actually i am not a chinese power outlet strip and i am already confused as to how they work, so I just attempt to plug it in and most of the time it works.

the kicker is that this particular power strip has 5 outlets, one of which is for the computer, another which can be for anything, and three more which can only be for computer-related paraphenalia owing to the fact that they only work if the computer is on. how's that for confusing?
