In my opinion, this second vid gives an excellent portrait from the people's point of view.  It gives a good history and then the apology part of the speech at the end.  In conclusion, I think Rudd's apology was heartfelt, sincere, and very moving.  In all ( Read more... )

I was listening to the BBC on my way to work this morning and they did a rather long segment on the Stolen Generation including several interviews including people who were for and against the apology but also those who were taken away from their families. I was honestly shocked how some could explain away taking children away from their families. The one man they interviewed was so against the apology and was so insistant that the children removed from their homes had a better life that it made me wonder if his conscience was making him uneasy.

The BBC said some 30% of the country was completely against the apology thinking that there was nothing wrong with what was done.

I never heard of the Stolen Generation until you posted about it and I was glad I got to hear the interviews on BBC this morning.

I first started reading about it over five years ago. It lead me to go back to school and pursue anthropology...

I am just posessed with an incredible admiration for these people, what little we know of the way they view the world, etc. I know now that it is virtually impossible for me to find a way to work within an Aboriginal community, as I am not Australian, nor do I think more white people telling them what to do is something that they need. In reality, I think we need to do a lot more listening and a lot less talking.
