you could write a novel....

So I've been thinking (as one does), about how I have a Thing for men in wire-rimmed glasses, and then I thought, God, John Sheppard would be totally hot in glasses, which I think we all can agree is a Great Truth. But self, I thought, if Sheppard had glasses, then the Air Force wouldn't let him fly! And that would be tragic and sad! (Which is, ( Read more... )

Clearly, your head is a excellent place to be, since I am particularly fond of that incarnation of John as well.

This is a gorgeous and painful little fic, and it says so much in so few words. I'd love to see more in this universe.

Thank you! Hopefully I'll have something else up in this world relatively soon.

What I like love adore about this:

Damaged, grounded John - a painful, gentle window into the reality of a war veteran's (any war, any veteran) life.

The way that there are some things in this world that cannot be physically, logically expressed. The way that making art will never exactly translate those things, and yet still communicates them with all their undiluted power.

"...a bottle choking on its cork."

The idea of John, in glasses, sometime after this point; an unassumingly successful writer in a soft, comfy cardigan (with darning patches on the elbows), writing love poetry and wishing to God he could actually pretend it was something else... Or perhaps, not realising it was love poetry in the first place.

This was astonishingly lovely, tactile right down to the soul. I'm so happy to have read it! Thank you for writing it.

Very interesting. I can absolutely imagine John writing poetry by accident.

He's stopped feeling like a bottle choking on its cork.
This was lovely - I think it's a great image for John, with his near-complete inability to express (or be aware of) his feelings. What comes to mind most clearly is the expression he had towards the end of "Miller's Crossing" during *the* conversation with Rodney. Marvelous.

Does he want the poetry to not suck becuase it turns out he likes his own stuff? Somehow I like the idea that even though John is good at poetry he can never really feel it's good enough. Like he feels the only thing he was ever truly good at is flying and since that was taken away from him poetry is his second place.

Really loved this John. And the idea of Rodney showing up as the publisher is worth waiting for.
