[It is not so surprising these days to see Break out and about, with a cane in one hand and a piece of candy in the other.
He is focused on unwrapping the piece of candy as Light walks by--or so it seems, but he is quick to speak in an airy tone right as the other steps into earshot.]
[Light pauses mid-walk; as much as he'd been hoping to run into people that might be able to answer his questions, he isn't so keen on the idea of standing out immediately as a new person. Perhaps it couldn't be helped- after all, he's seen that the feeds on his phone go back some time, and he has no way of knowing just how long this stranger has been in Somarium. More problematically there is the possibility that this stranger could very well be the kidnapper holding everyone hostage. He subtly flicks his eyes up and down, as he commits the strangers appearance to memory, before offering a smile.]
Ah, yes... I am, as a matter of fact. [He manages a casual laugh.] Was it so obvious?
[Not five minutes have passed during their interaction, but already Light is developing a dislike for this stranger. His attitude is decidedly far too left of neutral to be considered likable. Whoever this is, is enjoying Light's predicament, that much Light can tell from the taunting... but did that necessarily mean he was the one holding Light here? It certainly didn't reduce the possibility.]
Found? [He's careful to keep his tone neutral, his inquiry casual.] Found by whom?
[Drake had left Elena in the apartment to return to Espoir in search of Chloe, just in case she happened to make an appearance today. Not only had he awoken here upon arrival, but he found Elena not too far off. He felt certain that if the other woman were to appear it would be in this area. Unfortunately, Elena still wasn't thrilled about him being concerned for Chloe at all and rather than get into an argument he had her stay behind. It is just easier that way.
He cuts through the forest, which was worth searching since it is on the way, Drake spots the area he had first woken up. It is quiet, save for the usual noises found in a small, quaint town. Then his eyes caught sight of a young guy who looked to be brushing himself off and surveying the area. Ah. A new visitor into this inescapable and so-called dreamworld. Poor guy.
Since Drake is walking that way he decides to call out as he approaches.]
So... this place claims another unsuspecting victim, I see.
Victim? [Light blinks. That would support his theories about Somarium thus far, but it only serves as a springboard for the plethora of questions racing through his mind. His sentences are rapid fire.] Sorry, but would you mind elaborating? Who runs this place, exactly? Where is this place, geographically speaking? [A short pause.] ...I apologize, I'm asking far too many questions at once, but it's confusing.
[His eyes widen at the questions before he smiles and chuckles lightly. Ah, he was in for quite the disappointment.]
Whoa, whoa... Easy, buddy. [He shrugs.] Unfortunately I got nothing. That's why I'm out here now, actually. I've been coming out here every day since I got here hoping to find my friend or... something. People commonly appear in this area, but that's as much as I know.
[He frowns at that, knowing how it felt to be the one wanting answers so desperately.]
Really what they need to send people here with is an instruction manual. All I got is what I've been told by others. Just don't expect it to sound normal, okay? [But he doesn't wait for any approval and just goes ahead.] Place is known as a dreamworld. So, you're dreaming, but you're not. Back at home you're going about the usual. It's kinda like living two lives.
And as far as I can tell we aren't even on Earth. Uh, assuming that's where you're from.
[The words are supposed to be reassuring, Light can tell that much, but it fails to achieve that on every front. The only reason Light hasn't already tossed this aside as a lie, is because... well, what could this person possibly gain by lying about something this ludicrous?]
So what you're saying.. [His brow furrows as he tries to process this bit of information. The metaphysical implications of being in two places at once--No. It had to be impossible. Had to be.] ...is that we are...
[A sigh.]
I'm sorry, but do you have any proof of this? If not proof, any reasons for your theory? It's just... [Light can feel his throat tightening- he doesn't have the time for this. He needs to go back and do something about that goddamn bastard.] ..Well, it seems a little unbelievable doesn't it? [A shaky laugh.] It's almost as though we're all versions of Schrödinger's cats. Perhaps I'm oversimplifying the issue, but if it's true that we're dreaming then shouldn't we in theory, be able to leave by waking up?
At the time of Light's arrival, Kisshu had been in Somni, completly oblivious of the new person. Which wasn't a problem, because there was no reason for Kisshu to even care. But being in Somni was tiring. The city was interesting, but in the end it was just a disgusting pollution of the envriroment. The fact that this wasn't earth didn't change anything about that. So he teleported back to a place that he liked at least a bit more; the village of Espoir. And appeared directly in front of Light, seemingly out of nowhere.
He stretched his arms and legs and then looked at the human, while hovering in the air over the ground. "Oh? My, my, isn't there any quiet place in this world?"
[Light's eyes widen in shock-- no, not even months of adjusting to Ryuk could have prepared him for Kisshu's sudden appearance. Instinctively, he draws back a few steps, heart pounding behind his rib cage. For half a minute, he's unable to say anything to Kisshu; his voice is somehow stuck behind a deluge of thoughts. Kisshu doesn't look like any Shinigami Light has seen--though admittedly, his experiences with them had been strictly limited to a singular entity, and it would be idiocy to assume that they all looked similar.
But then again, aside from the apparent ability to teleport, the ears, this one looks humanoid enough that Light's natural inclination is to exclude Shinigami from that list entirely. Alien then? But the idea is itself so ridiculous, that Light almost kicks himself for considering that possibility. Hallucination. Now that is a much more satisfying explanation. His body language visibly relaxes, and he turns to face the...whatever it is...head-on. No, he's not too pleased with the idea of having to look up at it
( ... )
[Kisshu is enjoying that reaction. Shock in human faces, let it be ever so slightly, was pleasing him immensely. Yes, he was not one of them. And the person in front of him seemed to realize that. After being mistaken for a human twice, this was exactly what he needed to make his (overdimensional) ego grow again.]
Somarium, the world of dreams. [He smiles, as if he knew everything about it and felt completly at home here. Which of course, he did not. He still hadn't really adjusted to the foreign place]
I totally wasn't paying attention to writing style! T_T I can switch to 3rd if you prefer? Sorry!solsticeanewMay 16 2011, 22:04:49 UTC
[Light has already gathered that much from checking through the phone. The addition of an epithet to the name "Somarium" barely qualifies as helpful, though yes, now he could reason how the place acquired the name. Som.. presumably from the latin words somnium, to dream, and the suffix arium, relating to, but knowing the etymology is absolutely worthless. The confident smile on this creature's face is only succeeds in irritating Light. If this thing is only going to answer direct questions, then, so be it; Light would just have to be more specific. He returns the smile, betraying none of his annoyance.]
Yes, but that doesn't exactly answer where Somarium is, or how to leave it.
[Light adopts a small smile as the stranger approaches, though his brow furrows as he gets a closer look at-... Is that a tail?]
A-ah, yes.
[He brings his focus back to the others face. Instinct tells him that he shouldn't ask, and really, in the face of Light's much more obvious problems, the existence of a person with a tail is the least of Light's worries. He puts it in the back of his mind.]
[Upon meeting yet another person who had absolutely no information to give, Light's assessment of this place continues to deteriorate. Do these people not care that they are held here against their will? Kidnapping may no longer be on the differential, but really, considering who he's met so far, it doesn't even seem particularly difficult to actually kidnap any of these people. Perhaps that isn't a fair assessment, but he sees no challenge to that theory...yet.
As for Zidane's ignorance on the matter of Somarium, Light's decidedly unimpressed. If it were him, he'd have tried to find out as much as possible--in fact, it's what he's doing now. There's only the slightest bit of bite detectable in his otherwise normal sounding comment.]
Oh really? [A laugh.] I wouldn't be so complacent about that if I were in your shoes. [A shrug.] How long have you been in Somarium? [And remembering what he had been told earlier about multiple planets.] ...And where were you originally from?
