Sebastian's absence had not depressed Ciel. In fact, it had made him rather angry; the whole thing had him being very put-out, and the fact that no amount of calling would or could summon his demon butler, had left him with a very strange feeling he couldn't quite place words to. After so much fussing with his shirt that he wanted to scream he'd managed to get it buttoned nearly-straight - it was just one off, the whole shirt pulled a bit crooked as a result. He'd run a comb through his hair, but the results were far from pleasant, and the eyepatch that was normally tied with deft fingers had been twisted and knotted in the back; he got it on, but he'd have quite the task of getting it off again, without simply pulling it off over his hair. His shoelaces were in knots, his once-crooked bow tie now removed completely, but still, the kid was a mess. So much so, and so angry with his circumstances, he'd taken a walk, determined that if he should find Sebastian, there would be Hell to pay ( ... )

Love? Interesting... how children threw around that word so freely. Ciel remembered a time when it fell quite easily off his own tongue as well. He loved his mother, loved his father. Love Lizzie, and Aunt Ann, and his dog... and so many others. Now, the word seemed to have left his vocabulary entirely. That this girl, someone he barely knew, could use such a word on him...?

Ciel just looked at her, perplexed. What had he ever done to deserve that?

Slowly, Ciel rose from his seat, letting the plank and chains swing behind him. "You wouldn't say that if you knew me better." It was quiet, not really intended for her ears, though he did not care if she heard. Still, before she could react too harshly, as he knew young girls to do, he turned and held out a hand. "Come on, I'll walk you home."

"You've forgotten, I've known you longer than you think even if you've forgotten me." She stood up and dusted off her skirt before she took his hand and smiled warmly as she gave his hand a squeeze. In his own way, Ciel had cheered her up though the reality was he had just diverted her attention to something else.
