Kyouya was briskly walking back home from the library. Both eyes trained on his Dreamberry, he's trudging down the country path, thoughts only for the text message he'd writing and escaping the cold--
--when he walks straight into another body, having caught Ciel on his right side. It's not much more than a jarring push, but Kyouya dropped the Dreamberry, apparently more clumsy than normal and glanced up, though not by much, realizing he has walked into the earl.
"My apologies," he said, expressing his regret first before concerning himself with his Dreamberry.
Ciel scoffed, smoothing out his coat. "You should watch where you're going next time," he replied. And then he stopped, getting a closer look at the one who had bumped into him. He was almost certain he'd seen him before. Hadn't he been in attendance at his birthday party? Yes, that was right... he'd spent a lot of time with that Renge girl.
Sighing, he waved a hand dismissively. "But as long as you're here... Your name was Kyouya, right?" it would have been rude for a host (however unwilling) no to remember the names of his guests.
Kyouya bowed his head in acknowledgment, tucking his Dreamberry inside his coat pocket.
"Yes. And you're perfectly right, Lord Phantomhive." Inside, he may be embarrassed as all hell for the slip, but Kyouya is keeping it cool. But of all the people to slip up around... this was not smart.
"Please forgive the oversight." Kyouya bowed his head, humbly sorry.
Well, he was certainly interesting. Ciel had been pleasantly surprised at the number of people he encountered, who treated him with the respect he deserved. In any other situation, Kyouya's apology would have gone noted, and then the whole thing forgotten. As it was, Ciel had already forgotten, but not for any reason related to Kyouya's behvaiour. No, Ciel was looking around, a sour expression on his face.
"Have you seen a girl?" He cut in, neither accepting nor dismissing the request for forgiveness. "She'd be about my age, blond ringlets, and green eyes."
Sebastian heard the restless commotion out in the hallway and abandoned his dusting in the drawing room in time to catch sight of his young master descending the steps and rushing out.
Brow raised, the Phantomhive butler stood in the doorway of the mansion, brushing the dust off his gloved hands before checking his pocket watch. He glanced from the time piece to the earl's small retreating back
"Have a pleasant walk, my lord," Sebastian bid, though clearly the weather was less than ideal for a morning stroll.
Whether or not Ciel had ignored Sebastian, or simply not heard him, was unclear. Whichever it was, the young earl had continued on without such much as looking back, reaching to keep his hat in place as a breeze threatened to pluck it from his head.
When Ciel finally returned to the house, it was nearly nightfall. His arms folded, hand tucked to keep them warm, he pushed open the door, and shut it behind him with the force of his shoulder. His cheeks were flushed from the chill against his skin, his teeth chattering despite his best efforts. His lips had turned a purplish-blue, he'd managed to lose his hat, and had not managed to find Elizabeth. He was half-frozen, half-angry, and all worried. Worst of all, it was too late for him to go looking out in Somni.
"Dear me," Sebastian spoke upon seeing the earl in such a state. He had a tray of tea things on the hall table beside where he stood, still steaming as if he knew exactly when to expect Ciel's return.
"Enjoy your walk?" the demon butler inquired, meeting his master at the doorway in order to relieve him of his hat and coat. He felt the cold clinging to the fabric, but didn't offer a fire or a change of clothing. He waited for the will of his young master.
Ciel seemed almost reluctant to relinquish the coat. Once it was gone, he folded his arms again, waiting for the warmth of the house to soak into his chilled bones. He frowned at Sebastian, and his question. It was a polite and proper question expected of a butler, but Ciel had been gone all day, and he knew that Sebastian knew him better than that. For once, he was not in the mood for games.
"I c-can't find Elizabeth," having not quite stilled his chattering teeth. "I looked all over Espoir, and no one has seen her."
It had been quite a while since Draco had seen Ciel. He recalled Ciel's rather insane decision to not sleep, stifled a chuckle, and promptly went back to watching the young man from afar. Draco himself was settled on a nearby bench, people-watching as he tended to do.
After but a few short moments, the blond finally called over: "Well, well. Don't you look rather flustered."
At the sound of that familliar voice, Ciel turned. His one visible eye landed on Draco, and then recognition dawned on his face. Finding it rather uncouth to engage in a conversation with such a distance between them, Ciel began walking towards the bench, and Draco, at a brisk pace.
"I'm looking for Elizabeth. Have you seen her?" in his moment of distraction, he could not remember if Draco had ever been introduced to his Fiancee or not.
They hadn't been, of course. And Draco made certain to say just as much. Expression sobering to merely a raised brow, he shook his head slowly. "I can't say I'm aware of who this Elizabeth is," he told Ciel, uncrossing and recrossing his legs.
Ciel's expression changed just enough to register as something like surprise. It faded soon enough, back to his neutral expression.
"I wouldn't say 'missing'," he began, covering his anxiousness. "Just this morning, I believe, but she's nowhere in the house, so that means she has to be out here somewhere."
Backtracking a bit in the conversation, Ciel passed his cane from one hand to the other. "She's about my height, with blond curls, and green eyes. So, have you seen her?"
