Wandering lost as always, Ace just happened to hear the young boy's shot and glanced over. Though it had been quite some time, he recognized the boy to be a certain pig-tailed girl's friend. Or weapon to be precise. But chances were high that the weapon would not remember the knight, so with his ever seemingly cheerful smile, he greeted Soul with a light chuckle.
"You should probably buy some warmer clothing, then," he said in a pleasant voice.
Soul shifted his gaze, momentarily pulling himself out of his discomfort to look over at him. Even though the guy was laughing, he seemed genuine enough. Which was good. The last thing Soul needed on top of everything else was to make an enemy of the first person he met.
"Yeah. I haven't gotten around to it yet." He closed his eyes briefly and buried a hand in that mess of white hair.
"Sorry about that. Guess I didn't realize how loud I was."
...I meant shout. Dammit.knightofchangesDecember 5 2010, 03:30:01 UTC
Oh if Soul only knew. But while Ace doesn't view him as an enemy, he is definitely someone of interest.
At Soul's remarks, he just shook a head and continued to smile that pleasant smile. "No need to apologize. Hearing someone yell isn't that uncommon around here, actually." He glanced around a moment before spotting a nearby store. How handy! "I believe you should be able to buy some more suitable clothing there."
No prob! I hadn't even noticed that. XD;beatofthesoulDecember 5 2010, 04:54:22 UTC
He certainly appeared to be a happy guy. It was almost unnerving. But Soul chalked that up to everything else about this situation. Hearing that shouting was apparently a common occurrence didn't help.
"I guess not many people like it when it gets this cold."
If Soul was lucky and that's all the guy meant. He kept his eyes on him, only sparing a glance in the store's direction.
"Thanks for your help. I would say that I'll return the favor, but to be honest, I hope I'm not around long enough."
[freezing was right, and Maka was already feeling miserable just ten or so minutes into her excursion into the bitter cold temperatures, taking her usual shortcut through Espoir to get to the other districts. all she really wanted to do was stay home today, but unfortunately responsibilities came first; there were a few necessities needed around the apartment, and she needed stuff for dinner later, too... uhg, this was the pits.
Maka was hurrying through the village's snow covered streets, paying little mind to her surroundings until there was a shout that broke into the otherwise quiet atmosphere.
... something of a familiar shout.
what she hadn't been expecting was turning to find someone who actually was familiar, wandering about just across the way.]
.. That's...
[yep, that was him all right, and after giving a brief, disbelieving stare, Maka immediately began to scurry on over his way, waving her arm up as she called out--]
[Her voice barely had time to register before Soul whipped his head in her direction. He'd been listening for it all along, having assumed that if he was in this crazy place, she must be stuck there as well.
It was both a relief and alarming to find out he was right.]
Maka!
[Soul called back to her before hurrying in her direction, trying for all the world not to fall down in the snow. Of course, the sudden dive-bombing of a floating Christmas ornament didn't help.
Not cool.]
There you are. I've been looking all over for you!
[oh, great. the ornaments were back with a vengeance; she was really starting to get sick and tired of inanimate objects suddenly coming to life here.
fortunately they weren't as persistent as the harvest was, so after it decided to float off elsewhere (thank goodness, she wasn't in the mood to fend off these things), Maka looked down at her partner from where she had stopped short. yeah, definitely not cool there.]
Looking for me? Couldn't you have called? C'mon, get u--
[she stopped short, and then, a beat]
-- Have you just been wandering around here all this time?
Danny happens to be wandering on right on past him with his head down and his scarf ruffled up as high as it'll go. He can barely see: that's why he doesn't notice Soul until he shouts.
When he does, Danny screeches to a halt, rearing his head in surprise. "... Soul?"
"Simple. I didn't expect to suddenly find myself in the middle of the arctic again." If this was a mission, he surely would've received a little more warning.
...Unless it was another pop quiz.
But that idea is scrapped as soon as something else registers.
Confusion makes him frown. "... You think this is the artic?"
And with that second question, the frown smooths away. "Oh. Nevermind--I guess you probably don't remember anything." Dragging out a hand from its warm pocket, he thrusts it out to the other boy.
[Draped upon her form was a blanket, given from one of the people that were worried for the wolf in this season. However, she was a Sun Goddess and she was warm enough with her fur alone. Ears perked at the words, blinking at the boy before she made her way over with teeth grasping onto the blanket and tossing it over the other's form. Afterward she gave a light bark, wagging her tail.]
[As Soul wandered by a particular building somewhere in Espoir, he might have noticed a conglomeration of carolers huddling at the entrance of a certain cafe, belting out lyrics that didn't sound like song so much as it sounded like a gaggle of geese. To be certain, there really wasn't anything pleasing about the way they sang, and despite the good intentions and their rather festive cheer in the form of lopsided Santa hats and garlands galore, it became increasingly obvious that they had conglomerated before this particular cafe merely for the sweets offered as bribes for their conditional silence.
They seem to be doing rather well as well, when a loud shout erupts from the entrance, startling the carolers.
A shout that sounds something like this--]
If you want to sing about snow so badly, then eat it--
[See: Short, angry girl, cream-puff in hand and scroll in other
( ... )
[Soul started to walk even faster once he reached the carolers. His respect for music was just too great to linger and listen to them mangle it, even if it was just Christmas carols. But when he heard a shout that rivaled his own...well, he had to check that out.
Soul followed the path of the one caroler who went flying through the air, then stood amidst the stampede of the others. When it was all said and done, he studied the short girl for a moment before offering her a sharktoothed grin.]
Thanks. I think I owe you one. If I'd had to listen to that for one more second, I think I really would've lost my mind.
[The girl, on the other hand, shoved her scroll back into her textbook holder and watched as the others fled. Mumbled something like 'good riddance', but it was hard to discern seeing as she immediately shoved half her cream puff into her mouth and was just turning to return to the confines of the cafe, when the white haired boy approached her.
She turned, swallowed her cream puff, and offered a grin in return.]
I consider it as my charity for the day. [The grin vanished when she placed both hands on her hips, eyes darting off to the direction of the carolers' escape.] But it's getting freakin' annoying. If nothing else, this damn place should have laws against noise pollution.

Called?
[Recognition dawned on his face as he stood straight and slipped the Dreamberry from his pocket.]
You mean on this thing?
[A shrug.]
I dunno, I didn't really fool with it much.
[He just...charged right in.]

Soul frowns at that 'nevermind' part, but slowly withdraws his own hand from its pocket.
"Soul. I would say that it's nice to meet you, but with all this other weird crap that's going on, I'm not so sure. Can you maybe tell me where I am?"
For starters.

A wolf.

Thanks girl...

[Familiar enough that she knows the migration patterns of the dying geese.]
Do you work here or something?
[Soul looked up at the building, recognizing it as a cafe.]
Oh, I get it. Not only were those guys annoying, I bet they were driving away your customers too.
