[freezing was right, and Maka was already feeling miserable just ten or so minutes into her excursion into the bitter cold temperatures, taking her usual shortcut through Espoir to get to the other districts. all she really wanted to do was stay home today, but unfortunately responsibilities came first; there were a few necessities needed around the apartment, and she needed stuff for dinner later, too... uhg, this was the pits.
Maka was hurrying through the village's snow covered streets, paying little mind to her surroundings until there was a shout that broke into the otherwise quiet atmosphere.
... something of a familiar shout.
what she hadn't been expecting was turning to find someone who actually was familiar, wandering about just across the way.]
.. That's...
[yep, that was him all right, and after giving a brief, disbelieving stare, Maka immediately began to scurry on over his way, waving her arm up as she called out--]
[Her voice barely had time to register before Soul whipped his head in her direction. He'd been listening for it all along, having assumed that if he was in this crazy place, she must be stuck there as well.
It was both a relief and alarming to find out he was right.]
Maka!
[Soul called back to her before hurrying in her direction, trying for all the world not to fall down in the snow. Of course, the sudden dive-bombing of a floating Christmas ornament didn't help.
Not cool.]
There you are. I've been looking all over for you!
[oh, great. the ornaments were back with a vengeance; she was really starting to get sick and tired of inanimate objects suddenly coming to life here.
fortunately they weren't as persistent as the harvest was, so after it decided to float off elsewhere (thank goodness, she wasn't in the mood to fend off these things), Maka looked down at her partner from where she had stopped short. yeah, definitely not cool there.]
Looking for me? Couldn't you have called? C'mon, get u--
[she stopped short, and then, a beat]
-- Have you just been wandering around here all this time?
[guess that answered that. a glimpse of disappointment was evident on her face; Maka really hoped he would have remembered, but then... yeah, thanks, Somarium. this was one role reversal she didn't think she'd be landing in.]
It's nothing. Come on, I'll take you back, and I guess I should do some explaining along the way.
Don't look so worried, nothing's wrong. We're going to the apartment, but-- well, you wouldn't know what that is. And since you're out here wondering what's going on, I'm going to tell you. You're just lucky I decided on going out today...
This place is called Somarium; it's a different world entirely from back home, and I've been here for a while, myself. If I hadn't bumped into you just now, I wouldn't have known you were out here.
[Soul stopped in his tracks. Was she kidding? A different world? And he'd just seen her!
But he wouldn't go back on his word. His trust would just have to overcome his doubts.
He started walking again, running a couple of steps to catch up.]
Okay...then how do we get out of here and go home?
[A little voice in the back of his head told him that if it could be done, she would've already done it. But maybe it was something that required the both of them. Wasn't that how it always worked out?]
[yeah, she knew what that sudden stop meant; Maka had a feeling that he was getting skeptical, but at least he wasn't immediately dismissing her claims. that was a start.]
That's another problem-- nobody here knows. Unless you somehow disappear from this place, we're stuck until we find a way out.

Called?
[Recognition dawned on his face as he stood straight and slipped the Dreamberry from his pocket.]
You mean on this thing?
[A shrug.]
I dunno, I didn't really fool with it much.
[He just...charged right in.]

uh-oh. did she jump to conclusions too fast thinking he'd remember?]
You didn't know...?

[Soul tried to devote all his attention to her. It seemed like she was saying something important.
But--]
All I know right now is that I'm freezing my ass off! We've gotta get inside.
[He started looking around them for a promising shelter.]

[He looked curious, but he wasn't about to argue. Instead he fell into step beside her.]
Maka, is something wrong?
[There was a sudden heaviness to Soul's voice. Maybe it was instinct, strengthened by the look on her face and the need to 'explain' something.]

[He grinned at that. Soon they would be out of the cold and the snow, and that would be one step in the right direction.]
Yeah, that was a good plan. It would've been pointless for us both to just be wandering around, looking for each other.

Before I start, I know this is all going to sound pretty crazy, but I trust you'll believe me on this. Right?

Who do you think you're talking to?
[They were partners, right? But leaving it at that didn't seem quite enough for her, not this time. So he'd say it.]
Yeah. I'll believe you.

[well, heeeere we go]

[And if that weren't disturbing enough already, she had to go and say 'disappear'.]
