Naoya had, after his talk with Laharl, put the furniture back in this apartment. After all, he felt with Break he could afford a much more subtle approach...since Break actually seemed to have an intellect surpassing that of a daisy.
He smirked some as he heard the knock on the door, opening the door and staring down at Break (being ridiculously tall was always a lovely advantage), gesturing for him to come inside.
"And for that answer, what I'll tell you is that memory is the greatest curse mankind was ever given."
He wouldn't get into the specifics for something so vague, after all.
"Every contract has it's price...and everyone who makes a contract has to have some incredible will. Now I wonder, what was it that made you so desperate?"
Break chuckled at that response, for it was not an answer at all, and yet...He could draw answers from it nonetheless.
"Oh? It would seem like you are speaking from experience~" Break responded easily, leaning back in the chair. "You are so certain that it was due to desperation; why is that?"
"Because, quite simply...a man seeking only power wouldn't have the will to pay that high a price."
He'd watched it enough, men seeking only power did not get demons that required such a price...not if it was upfront, at least. The ones who made that sacrifice knowingly wanted something more.
"That is between my demons and I. What they get from me has nothing to do with my curse."
Naoya closed his eyes, almost laughing at the thought. At this point, what Loki got out of the contract was subject to debate, but he most certainly wasn't asking as steep a price as he reckoned Xerxes had paid.
"Of course," Break answered nearly automatically, considering this. Hmm...He was gathering the pieces here, and he thought that he finally, perhaps, would be able to piece them all together.
"And the price of your curse is far steeper than that of your contract, is that correct?"
He allowed a leg to slip from his cross-legged position, leaning forward once again with a cheery smile.
"That is something of an understatement. At my age, I would like to think I can get the most out of my contracts for the lowest price." Which was to say, his will was so iron-strong that the demons he bound couldn't escape it. He didn't treat them badly, but they were his unquestionably, to do with as he wished.
"Although I'd say in your case, your contract is your curse."
"My 'curse'?" Break merely chuckled, and with a crunch, he bit through the lollipop in his mouth. "I would not call it so."
He simply did not define the contract. One a curse, the other his punishment. It was, again, vague enough to be the truth.
He moved on. "You talk as though you were old~" Break said teasingly. It had little bearing on anything, Naoya's age, but, well. He was curious, for he knew that he was far older than he looked.
"My, what a nasty word 'guilt' can be," Break answered without answering, smiling.
"My, my~ Six thousand years old. But clearly your body is not that old." Break tilted his head, putting a finger to his lips in mock thought. Though really, it left only two choices, and of the two, he knew which he thought it was.
He smirked some as he heard the knock on the door, opening the door and staring down at Break (being ridiculously tall was always a lovely advantage), gesturing for him to come inside.
"You made good time."

Naoya's smirk never so much as faltered, and the calculating light behind his eyes was much to old for his appearance.

He knew what the price for his own contract had been, and what a steep price it had been. But Naoya's 'price'...That was far more interesting.

"A little over six thousand years old. I have every right to talk this way."
