[Javert patrols by the party during the hide and seek game, his police cane held at his back. He's just a cop on the beat, nothing to see here. He pauses by a lamp-post to survey the party, a mostly-finished cup of coffee in his hand.
He intends only to scout out the party and then be on his way. Too bad it seems that most of the guests are... unseen at this time.
He lifts the stale coffee to his thin lips for a sip.]

[Though not participating in the game itself, Valjean seems to have become the most successful at remaining hidden as he keeps watch on his young daughter intently. As special as this day is to her, the man does not trust these guests one bit. They are strangers to him, foreigners in his residence. There is nothing more uncomfortable to him than to have the private place of himself and his loved one littered with unknown people. Except, of course, perhaps the weight of shackles. That was always unpleasant.
It doesn't take long for the man to spot Javert partaking in the refreshments for the real guests. Here, in his own home, Valjean can stand his ground against the Inspector.
He appears behind him, his expression detached and impartial. There is no uneasiness in his voice today.]
