Maka walks slowly through the Espoir fields towards the cottages in the village.  She keeps a wary eye on the scarecrows.  Every so often she think she sees a flicker of movement out of the corner of her eye but when she looks, nothings there.  Just more scarecrows.  Still better keep my guard

Soul was starting to see why Maka had seemed frustrated about the inability to escape Somarium at will. Since she had spontaneously vanished and left him, he had begun to fall into the throes of boredom and was not pleased about it at all.

He had gotten somewhat used to the layout of some of the nearby places, just from his aimless wandering, but what he really wanted was something to do.

Wandering through the village, Maka catches sight of someone disappearing down one of the streets. Silently she pursues the person.

As she rounds the corner, she recognizes the person heading down the road. "Soul? What are you doing here? Where are we?" she asks, approaching him.

The voice startled the boy out of his reverie, and he turned sharply to face her.

"Maka?" He sounded surprised, but also sort of... relieved. "When did you get back?" Soul was planning to ask how she came back, too, but he doubted she knew the answer to that one.

"Get back? What do you mean?" she asks, not sure what to make of his question.

Nai has been wandering about for quite some time; now almost completely and hopelessly lost. He stares at the ground sadly; on the verge of tears as he shuffles about and fidgets with the bracelet on his left wrist.

"Gareki... Karoku..." Of course, since he isn't watching where he's walking, he bumps right into Maka.

Having reached the fountain, Maka had been standing there completely lost in thought. Nothing had attacked her yet, and the place didn't seem very dangerous.

Where is everyone? she wonders to herself. What is this place?

Suddenly she gets bumped into. "Oh!" she says, startled, but then catching sight of the frightened boy who looks about her age she smiles gently and says, "Hello. Are you lost too?"

Nai flusters for a moment; trying to regain his balance so he doesn't fall over. He seems a bit startled as the girl addresses him and instinctively takes a step backwards; as if he is about to flee. After a few moments though he shakes his head slowly.

"No, I'm... Not 'lost'. I was looking for Gareki, but now I can't see him anymore..." Of course he doesn't really understand what "lost" means, so he just assumes that he isn't.

"Oh... Well, maybe I can help you find him," she offers with a smile.

Her eyes look friendly and seem full of good intentions and sincerity. There's nothing scary about this one.
