Who: Maka, et al.
Where: Espoir
Style: Third
Status: Open

Maka walks slowly through the Espoir fields towards the cottages in the village.  She keeps a wary eye on the scarecrows.  Every so often she think she sees a flicker of movement out of the corner of her eye but when she looks, nothings there.  Just more scarecrows.  Still better keep my guard ( Read more... )

Soul was starting to see why Maka had seemed frustrated about the inability to escape Somarium at will. Since she had spontaneously vanished and left him, he had begun to fall into the throes of boredom and was not pleased about it at all.

He had gotten somewhat used to the layout of some of the nearby places, just from his aimless wandering, but what he really wanted was something to do.

Wandering through the village, Maka catches sight of someone disappearing down one of the streets. Silently she pursues the person.

As she rounds the corner, she recognizes the person heading down the road. "Soul? What are you doing here? Where are we?" she asks, approaching him.

The voice startled the boy out of his reverie, and he turned sharply to face her.

"Maka?" He sounded surprised, but also sort of... relieved. "When did you get back?" Soul was planning to ask how she came back, too, but he doubted she knew the answer to that one.

"Get back? What do you mean?" she asks, not sure what to make of his question.

"What, you don't remember being here before or something?" Soul smirked, but then paused when he realized she honestly failed to see the humor in the question. She actually didn't remember being there before?

"Wait..." the weapon said slowly, frowning slightly as he remembered the questions he'd been bombarded with upon entering Somarium. "What's the last thing you remember?"

"The last thing? Well, I was just dozing off in the Infirmary. I-"

"-hey, you didn't drag me out and leave me in that field did you?" she says, looking suspicious.

"Of course not. I'm not a jerk, Maka." Although was it possible that once someone left Somarium, they forgot about it altogether. That would explain a lot. But hey, didn't she just say--?

"Wait, infirmary? What the hell happened?!" Soul knew that as long as he was around, he would never, never let anything happen to his technician, and as far as he remembered, he never had...

"Quit joking. You know what happened. Now where are we? This doesn't look like Death City," says Maka.

"I'm not kidding. I want to know what happened."

He jammed his hands in his pockets and looked her right in the face. Deep breath. Soul intended to explain everything all in one go. "This is a dream world called Somarium. I don't know why we come here or how we leave, but we're stuck here for now. You were here before. You just don't remember." He raked a hand back through some of his white hair.

"I'm asking about what happened because it probably didn't happen to me yet. We can come from different points in time and other weird stuff like that; last I remember was the downtime after Medusa woke the Kishin up."

More suspicion. But then again, this really isn't Soul's style to pull such a bad joke.

"You're really serious," she says.

"Somarium, huh?" says Maka. "I remember the downtime too. The last thing I remember is recovering from some spider silk that had immobilized me during our first mission after that."

She is quiet for a moment.

"Well, if what you're saying is true and we're stuck here, at least we're stuck here together. I hope you haven't been waiting too long," she says, grinning suddenly at her friend.

"You shouldn't leave a cool guy like me waiting, but I'll make an exception for you," Soul Eater said, flashing her a grin composed of rows of sharp teeth. "At least you're not from too far ahead, either, so we're pretty much still on the same page. Might as well get used to the place, too. Who knows how long we'll be here."

Maka grins. "Right. It'll be alright."

Looking around she says, "So do you have a place to live yet?"

Just as they used to share a flat back in Death City, it is likely that they will be sharing one here.
