Chrona did not know how to deal with this.

However, the last time that he had seen her, he was dying in her arms, his mother looming in the background with the intent to kill the both of them. Which couldn't have been good, to say the least.

But he had to find her ( Read more... )

It's a nice day, good for a walk- Kid had been hoping vaguely to run into someone he knew, but the sudden appearance of Chrona surprised him. At first he tenses up, seeing as their last meeting had not been on good terms, but he relaxes again when he hears him calling for Maka. She'd told him about this, hadn't she? How Chrona hadn't turned out to be a bad sort, really, that he'd just been corrupted by Medusa.

So he walks up to him, however cautiously, extending an uncertain greeting. "Maka's here somewhere. I saw her this morning."

"Yes, alright. I suppose we should check the apartment, first; she was there when I left, so she might still be there now." He starts off towards home, slowly, looking over his shoulder to make sure that Chrona is following.

Chrona nodded silently, following him, glad to have a direction to go in.

This would be much easier than looking for her at random, anyway.

It's somewhat awkward, being alone with Chrona while the silence settles in between them. Not like when there are pauses in his conversations with Maka- those he doesn't mind. But this just feels stilted and awkward, and he doesn't really like it. "...You and Maka are good friends, then? Where you come from?"

He wonders what that's like. He gets the impression that even after all this time, Maka doesn't care for him even one eighth as much as he cares for her, even on a superficial level. Or perhaps that's just him being paranoid.

Chrona didn't really get the same feeling as Kid. Discerning between awkward and non-awkward silences was not really his forte, after all. So he was caught a bit off-guard when Kid started talking again.

"...Where I come from?" he said, forgetting that he wasn't in Death City, or anywhere near it, anymore, "Oh, I mean, yeah..."

But he wasn't sure if that was the answer he was supposed to give.

"...Well, more like when, really. Last I saw you we were enemies, but you didn't seem hostile at all when I first saw you here- so things must have changed a considerable amount." He pauses, thinking; "Maka will like that. She was very hopeful that you could be cured of your insanity."

It's good that Maka is making an effort with him in the future, too; someone like this probably needs a lot of encouragement to stay on the right path. Especially with Ragnarok around all the time.

"...Oh," The concepts were sort of going over Chrona's head, but he understood that, at the very least, they weren't enemies anymore. Which was good, he didn't particularly want to be enemies with anyone, because that meant he would have to fight. And he didn't want that either. Especially when Ragnarok wasn't talking to him.

"T-That's... I'm glad. I... I wouldn't know how to deal with it if Maka still thought I was..." He didn't want to finish that sentence.

He looks at Chrona, somewhat curiously, and decides to leave it be. The subject is clearly making him uncomfortable. "She doesn't. She'll be happy to see you, I think." Supposing they can find her. They reach the apartment building and Kid holds the door for Chrona- he'd picked up some habits in his forced two weeks as Maka's butler.

"Mm, I hope you don't mind stairs," he says, starting off in the right direction again. "It's eight floors up."

He walked past Kid, figuring that that was what he was supposed to do. Although he did look back to him to make sure, and waited immediately inside.

He nodded. Stairs were fine, and the least of his concerns.

He's learning to appreciate silence again, after so long with Liz and Patti's chatter, so he doesn't say anything more, but leads Chrona up the stairs. He doesn't like being alone with his thoughts right now. If Maka is in danger at home, in the future... well, he shouldn't worry about her. She's strong and capable. She'll be fine. He needs to tell himself this, anyway.

He pushes open the door to Maka's apartment, noting that it's dark inside. "Maka?" he calls, and gets no reply. Frowning slightly, he turns to Chrona again. "It looks like she went out."

"Oh. Okay," he replied, although the disappointed tone in his voice was evident.

"Should... I just come back later, then?" He wasn't sure if he would be doing something wrong if he just waited for her here. Although he wouldn't have minded doing so, himself.

He shrugs, somehow doubting Maka would mind much if Chrona came in to wait. "You can wait for her here, if you like. It'd be easier than leaving and then coming back."
