Though the city was no longer completely foreign to him and he had done his share of exploring, Balthier still had a certain fondness for Espoir. Nothing here was quite like home, and so it was not nostalgia or a mere sense of familiarity that drew him there, nor was it a dislike of cities, for he happened to like them very much. It was, perhaps, that it was easiest to hear himself think there

It hadn't taken Fran long to find her way out of the small field of long summer grass where she'd arrived and make her way down to one of the narrow roads running along the outskirts of a line of houses, all stone and slate and unfamiliar architecture. If the sense of the air hadn't done it already, the shape of the houses would have told her all she needed to know - this was no place in Ivalice that she knew. Even the roads were strange. Fran scuffed the heel of her shoe against the paving and frowned very slightly. She turned to give her surroundings another thorough once over, looking beyond to the hints of taller buildings in the distance. Strange indeed

His lips split into an easy grin as he approached; running into Fran was easily the best thing that had come of his walks through Espoir so far. Without hesitation, he slung an arm around her shoulders, brightly colored rings standing out sharply against her dark skin as he squeezed her in a one-armed embrace quite without her permission.
"For what time we were, it was far too long," he conceded, inclining his head towards her before taking a step back to look her over, appraising. He shouldn't have been surprised to see that she had arrived in once piece, but his scars had come to Somni with him, and it seemed that all of their companions came from different points, if only slightly. "You are newly arrived, then?"
The embrace was unexpected and she tottered fiercely for a moment to retain her balance. In that moment she was hardly the picture of Viera dignity, but she certainly hadn't been expecting such a warm welcome from Balthier; they had been separated, but hardly for so long as all that. Perhaps however they had come to this place had been more harrowing for him, had upset or unnerved him somehow - though he hardly looked it.
Steadying herself, Fran returned his scrutiny opening with her head cocked to one side and her faintly eyes narrowed. He looked much the same to her, though perhaps there was some difference to the length of his hair if she looked quite closely. Though something so minute as that would be an easy thing to imagine and even she could hardly be certain. "I have - and suspect I have been a long time coming if that look on your face is any indication."
It was often that Basch came to Espoir to think. Somarium was nothing like home, so wandering the streets gave him time to think of suitable ways to possibly find their small group a way back to Ivalice. Granted, nothing much came to mind. He was not a scientist by trade, and frankly, no manner of hacking and slashing with his sword would get them closer to being home.
He had come to expect the unexpected here. People spoke of things that he had never heard of, their newfound electronic devices broadcasted their very dreams. Yet even with everything happening, seeing Fran was a shock.
Fran hadn't been long in Somarium by the time Basch found her, but she had at least been fortunate enough to run into a few people who had been kind enough to give her some indication of where she was along with a brief explanation of how the new addition to her personal affects - the little broadcasting device - worked. Before exploring the world further, Fran had decided to take a moment to figure out the intricacies of the little gadget and currently she stood in the shade of a small birch tree and was examining the various menus of the 'Dreamberry' with some dismay. As she'd expected, the map had done very little to ease her concern. There was nothing in the lay of the land that seemed even remotely familiar to her save perhaps for the desert that apparently surrounded the city itself. Worse still, there was no clear path home and, for that matter, no clear indication of what she could do. She turned the small device over in her hands, frustrated. She wanted a screwdriver, something to crack it open with so she could see how the

He had genuinely thought that her form was an apparition from the heat. It had gotten hot enough to remind him of the summers in Dalmasca, something he hasn't felt in some time. To see that she was actually real - it warmed his heart, yet it also worried him because more and more people from Ivalice were being pulled.
"Aye... but you are a welcomed sight. Balthier and her Majesty will be happy to see you as well."
"You also, Captain." It would have been a trial to find herself alone in this place, she was sure enough of that, but now she could hardly find it all bad. It had been long time since she'd seen Captain fon Ronsenburg, and Lady-- Queen, now (and how strange to think of that)-- Ashelia as well. Leave it to the whim of a dream to stage such a reunion.
"I take, by your omission, that your Lord Larsa has not come along."
[Hideki might be staring a bit rudely. He's not doing it intentionally but it's not every day you see a Viera.]
You know, like in those old western movies where the guide will grab the dirt, sniff it, and know exactly when the herd last passed by. I tried it once but it's just impossible!

Can you can tell where you are just by doing that? You're like something out of a movie!
