[She's been hearing about 'Christmas shopping' and all this talk about getting gifts for others for the holiday and the like, it's new to her but.. she feels like she should join in as well.

Especially if it'll bring people in higher hopes. So, there will be something written here, she's especially looking for those she knows to reply ninjaing with

Gifts. Why is it that 'gifts' are exchanged?

Celebration is what I've heard.

And what is it that they 'celebrate'?

It appears there are more than one, there's celebration of the birth of a savior. As well as a holiday to express and show one's gratitude and appreciation for their friends and family by exchanging gifts.

It mostly appears as a time to get together with those you care about.
