Gifts. Why is it that 'gifts' are exchanged?

Celebration is what I've heard.

And what is it that they 'celebrate'?

[the reply takes a few minutes, as she reads the replies she's been given about Christmas.]

It appears there are more than one, there's celebration of the birth of a savior. As well as a holiday to express and show one's gratitude and appreciation for their friends and family by exchanging gifts.

It mostly appears as a time to get together with those you care about.

Christmas is enjoying time with friends and family. I believe that is the best way to describe it.

Along with exchanging gifts?

Yes. Although it is more important to just be with each other rather than exchange gifts.

It seems a lot of people think so.

[So, big wolf here looks a lot like that little dog she met not too long ago. Maybe they are related somehow...]

Well, I don't really know what to expect, to be honest. I'm a little bit new to this place.

[oh hey, she recognizes this one from when she was a puppy.]

Anything you need or want?

Heh, the only thing I kind of wanted right now was for Mario to be here.

[Even though he couldn't exactly be 'deviated' from his mission back home, she would like him to be there for a minute or two, just so then she could tell him she was OK.]

But I guess that isn't happening. [She opens a small smile.]

[Light head tilt.]

It appears people are constantly showing up here, it probably won't be long until he is brought as well.

[A pause, as though considering something.]

By how things have been so far from what I've seen, I can't say it's a bad thing.

It is a Western holiday that encourages one to show one's gratitude and appreciation of others by way of offering gifts. It is also a time to gather with those with whom one is close.

[He's not too charmed by the materialistic aspect of it (crowds of shoppers can be vicious), nor the fact that one does not need a labeled day to find reason to show thanks to another. But the spirit of generosity is rather nice - and he often liked being among Lupin and Jigen on Christmas eve, basking in the wake of a successful heist and enjoying a quiet celebration.]

[oh! that does make things clearer.]

That's quite a celebration. I can see why there seem to be a lot of busy people.

Mn.

Unfortunately, attempting to enter a store at this time of year becomes a trying endeavour.

It's the time of year where all of your family and extended family and the people that aren't exactly family but might as well be all get together. You get each other gifts [which is stressful for a bloke] and you write cards, sing carols and there's a big dinner. Dinner's the best part of it.

Oh and you play dodge the mistletoe unless you're waiting for someone you like to be around. If it snows then you have huge snowball fights and build snowmen.

[This is a lively reply, and she's agreeing on that dinner part. Mm, food.]

It sounds like a lot of fun if you put it that way.

Do they not have Christmas where you're from? [Not judging although that's really sad because it's his favourite holiday.] It's great, the best holiday out of all of them.
