I've driven a car

You can get them, but it's harder to find. The Enterprise outlet had to bring it in from a nearby town, probably about a half hour away. It might be also that Enterprise is a US firm, and that they'll move cars around for you. Many rental firms only have them in major locations like airports.

When I've tried other-side driving, I don't think I have as much issue with right-left car position as you describe, but I had several times when I started to turn into the wrong lane at an intersection. It's interesting to see which things are problems for different people. The stickshift on the left side was OK, and I had a navigator (S), so I thought it was fun but terrorized S's parents in the back seat :-).

I think that the reason why I didn't turn into the wrong lanes is that I've been here nearly a month. (I'm now in my last week) This whole time as a pedestrian and as a passenger I've been watching how vehicles drive, so my instincts may have been corrected. Maybe I shouldn't try driving after I get home for a few days. 8-)
