I thought my first post after getting back would be about some of the things we encountered in Denmark (in addition to 'more sun than I have seen in Scotland since 2006'). But as it turns out, A. had different ideas

She seems to be the perfect cat - just spent a few hours sleeping under the monitor, then stretched out alongside the top end of the keyboard, and now she's lying in my lap as I type. It's very cosy.
She's adorable! My own cat's the same black and he's named after Belioz from the Aristocats.
She looks like she's going to own the place, how about Queenie?
Too bad, she's not a boy or you could go with Moses... have you read that book by James Herriot? He finds a black cat among the rushes and names it Moses. Yours came in a basket so it would fit. You could go with the old Hebrew spelling of Moses... Moshe and pronounce it like a Japanese name: Mo-she. That would be cute too.
No, I haven't read the book. Would you recommend it?
The fact that she's female wouldn't stop me giving her a male name... I'm pretty flexible there and I don't think the cat would have an identity crisis over it, either.
Moses the Kitten by Herriot delights children. It was my daughter's favorite book as a child. A great one on how the animal kingdom accepts everyone as they are and a good lesson for us all.
Another book if you are looking specifically at books aimed at children that feature cats... is Henry (the cat series) by Mary Calhoun. I loved Cross-Country Henry when I was little.
Charlie Anderson is a great book for children of divorced families who love cats. Easy to get through and the pictures are beautiful. It explains how having two homes means the same amount of love just in two different places.
Anyway... sorry about the length of comment, but I do love cats and especially sharing book recommendations.
Thank you for this thorough list! I never have a problem with long comments, so please don't apologize. I might check out one or two of these books even though I'm well beyond the target age range. :-)
Aww, I'm more of a dog person but the kitten is really rather lovely, and it's nice to see she's comfortable around the computer. Just don't call her 'Ueda' or you're liable to have your keyboard crushed...
I like dogs a lot, but more to play with than to have. They need so much more care than cats, and for a long time I simply couldn't have had one given my job; now I could, but I guess I'm a bit lazy. :-)
Nope, she's not going to get called Ueda. I still have no idea *what* I will call her... hm, maybe 'YOU'.

Ah, yes, I know that feeling from when Lace decides to sleep under my reclining chair. The things we do for our pets *g*
