Though it couldn't be seen, and Rory hardly felt mature acknowledging it himself, he reveled a bit in the way Nei'ess turned to him to begin the meeting, at the notion of being trusted to handle things, though he knew respect from them was still a ways off. That he would have to earn in time, given his previous actions ( ... )

Ana had practically been dragged by Nei's sprites, and while she liked the little guys, she really did not want to answer to Rory's lovely little all-call on the journals. She didn't even want to be in the same building as him right then, but she had been settling for the space of a floor between them two of them ( ... )

Ares didn't bother anything so timid as to clear her throat, but spoke in a strong, cutting voice. 'Have any significant dangers beyond the cat-creatures presented? I surveyed about a mile of the city from above and there did not appear to be much life in it.' She glanced around at the ruins they were sitting in. 'This place appears to be quite abandoned. Are you aware of any sentient natives living here?'

“A book was discovered here earlier by Nei’ess and Ana.” Tyr replied. “It indicates that there were normal humans living here until some unknown event began changing things. It lists several of the strange animal species, gimacats, gimarats, gimabears, gimazelles, gimahawks, gimawls, and a few of their traits and characteristics. It appears that the native people disappeared quite some time ago, due to the state of disrepair we have found everything in. There are indications that there have been many recent newcomers, like ourselves, to this city. The timing and locations have varied so it is quite possible there are others out there who have arrived and are joining up elsewhere and some who might yet come here. I myself arrived at the fountain after Hex and Nei‘ess had left.” He gestured to them as he spoke. “Ana and another arrived at the hospital at about the same time and Simera appeared in the library while we were here.” He paused a moment considering. “I’m not sure where you arrived Hardy. Could you tell us, and ( ... )

Rory regarded this all with a very intense look of concentration on his face, nearly missing the bowl offered him by Micas. "So then the flight problem seems to be settled. After all, considering the previous negotiations and the fact that they don't exactly have an army waiting for us out there, I'd say the minimum is all that's required so far with us covering you."

He paused for a moment to take in some of his meal, inwardly sighing in pleasurable relief at the feeling of sustenance filling him. Lifting his eyes to the magi, he voiced his question of ability, secretly threaded with concern for the boy who had sought to mend him after the morning's conflict between himself and Hex. "Nei'ess, I assume you're comfortable with providing this protection?" Another pause, then a glance cast over the group as a whole. "And that everyone else is content with their roles as well? Because if so, then it would be best to move out in good time. Especially if these turn out to be new comrades, and they are still injured as we speak."

Nei'ess blinked when Rory asked him that question and blushed slightly at this sign of concern, glancing down. He had to get used to people actually caring about him. Even Rory, who he'd been rude to because of the fight with Ana, treated Nei'ess better than anyone in his world. Yeah, I'm fine with it. It'll make me tired, but not too much that I can't be useful for this whole trip. It wouldn't be fair to ask Ares to fly into possible danger without doing what we can to make sure she's safe.

He started moving towards the doors, waiting for everyone to follow or not as they chose. Let's head outside so Ares can spread her wings and I can shield her and then we can all head out. Best not to keep these new people waiting. He paused by the door, looking back and glad that he'd gotten food and sleep recently. This was likely to make him pretty tired by the end.

'Right. That's probably enough talking then.' Ares walked over to Hardy, shifting her Maglite into her right hand and grabbing him by the wrist with her left. 'Let's get going.' Without waiting for an answer, she commenced to drag him toward the front doors and out onto the open steps of the library, where she dropped his wrist and squared herself. She braced her feet and curled in on herself just a little as her wings burst out within the open back of her blouse.

Being told someone has wings and seeing them were two different things. Winged people weren't a surprise to him but those were truly large wings. Nei'ess just shrugged it off though, holding out his hand in front of her.

The colors swirled around his hand, forming the shielding circle as he chanted mentally. He had to focus in order to make the shield cover everything it needed to properly. Finishing, the spell snapped into place, setting an invisible shield completely around Ares.

Releasing that much magic at once made Nei'ess stagger a few steps, but he shook it off without as much drain as he had feared. He smiled at Ares. There. That should keep you safer. Good luck and don't get hurt.

With that, the groups started departing to their destinations and tasks. Nei'ess set his mind to finding a safer route through the city, planning on expanding his color sensing as soon as he left the area he had already mapped.
