Ana had practically been dragged by Nei's sprites, and while she liked the little guys, she really did not want to answer to Rory's lovely little all-call on the journals. She didn't even want to be in the same building as him right then, but she had been settling for the space of a floor between them two of them.

Still, Nei seemed to be expecting her to come, so she finally gave a grunt of annoyance and stalked down the stairs, finding all the familiar faces plus one new one. She looked...interesting, to say the least. Like one of those people who lived in the really super religious towns like Saint Lene Carina. It was definitely different, especially among those already there, but Ana sure as hell wasn't about to question it.

She took her place among the group, and made a very, very concerted effort to not look at Rory. She could listen just fine without actively seeing his face.

He began talking, and once again she found his words to be sickeningly right, and even squirmed a little when his gaze landed pointedly on her for several seconds. She could feel it, like a burning on her skin that wasn't a blush.

And then he spoke words that just sat ill in her belly.

We demand our lives back.

There it was again. Wanting to go home, wanting to get their lives back, wanting to be somewhere else. She wanted it too, but every time she considered it, something just wrenched inside of her, a nagging that maybe... just maybe...

She closed her eyes, forcing the thoughts away. There were more pressing things at hand, like surviving, just as he had said, and making it a team effort. That was what she would concentrate on.

Not all those painful thoughts of home...

Ares didn't bother anything so timid as to clear her throat, but spoke in a strong, cutting voice. 'Have any significant dangers beyond the cat-creatures presented? I surveyed about a mile of the city from above and there did not appear to be much life in it.' She glanced around at the ruins they were sitting in. 'This place appears to be quite abandoned. Are you aware of any sentient natives living here?'

“A book was discovered here earlier by Nei’ess and Ana.” Tyr replied. “It indicates that there were normal humans living here until some unknown event began changing things. It lists several of the strange animal species, gimacats, gimarats, gimabears, gimazelles, gimahawks, gimawls, and a few of their traits and characteristics. It appears that the native people disappeared quite some time ago, due to the state of disrepair we have found everything in. There are indications that there have been many recent newcomers, like ourselves, to this city. The timing and locations have varied so it is quite possible there are others out there who have arrived and are joining up elsewhere and some who might yet come here. I myself arrived at the fountain after Hex and Nei‘ess had left.” He gestured to them as he spoke. “Ana and another arrived at the hospital at about the same time and Simera appeared in the library while we were here.” He paused a moment considering. “I’m not sure where you arrived Hardy. Could you tell us, and did you gain any other information from that location?”

"Ah, I believe it was a.." he blinked, suddenly realizing he couldn't recall the English word for 'military'. Frowning, he glanced at Simera.

"Simera-chan, ego de guntai wa nandesuka?"

'Army, military, troops,' Simera supplied easily.

"Arigatou, Simera-chan," Hardy nodded to the girl. Though still very confused how she'd learned Japanese, it seemed to be helpful to him, filling in the gaps where his level in English failed.

"It was a military base of some sort, somewhere to the east of here. And unfortunately the only thing I could gather from it is that Solluna obviously had some sort of government or military function before the people vanished. If it was anything like the American forces in my world, then it would have been one of many spread out over a country. But," he shrugged, "That is simply a guess."

There was a significant pause, only broken when Hex offered, sheepishly, "Er... I was at the fountain. I talked to-... Dr. Gorban was here, and I found him on the journal." He was still holding his own between his hands, and raised it a little to prove the point.

"Nei'ess found me after that. We..." he trailed off, thinking back on what had happened. "We found a place to stay in one of the buildings. The beds were still there, but I don't remember much else. I guess there could be something there; even as old as it was, there was some stuff that was still in pretty good shape.

"Ana found us next, and from there, we came here." He glanced away, then, deliberately leaving out his going back to the hospital.

Nei'ess felt he should add his part to what Hex had just said. I woke up in this library myself, not long before going to meet Hex. There wasn't anyone else around at that point.

Standing, Nei'ess walked to the middle of the open floor of the foyer and placed his hand against the floor. Black lines radiated from his hand, etching themselves into the floor. It formed a map of all the city that he had touched with his color sensing so far. It was mostly circular, centered on the library and barely reaching out to the fountain. Little bits more were mapped around the fountain and towards the hospital. The library and fountain were outlined in red and markers indicating the general locations of the hospital and military base showed up outside the main map.

Rocking back to sit in his heels, Nei'ess continued. That's how much of the city I've mapped with my magic so far. There was no one inside that area besides Hex when I mapped it, but given the rate of arrivals since, there could be more people in it now. So far people have arrived at the library, fountain, hospital and military base. The entry locations seem to be set. We could post signs for newcomers at those places if nothing else.

He stood up, dusting his pants off and walked back over to his seat. More words appeared as he sat down. Honestly though, I think the first step should be getting to know each other and what we can do. It'll be good to have set jobs since it'll keep us from stepping all over each other or neglecting something important.

I myself, as I've already told some of you, am a Magi, a servant race of mages. Hex agreed to be my master when we met earlier. Most of my magic is visual-based. I can do illusions and see things mostly. I do know some spells, such as the ones I've used for healing and to make the ward on this place. I would like to finish mapping this city and can direct people to best places for scavenging when I do, but really, I'm not a fighter and would probably be much better suited keeping things organized here at home base.

Micas stepped forward, becoming fully visible, her wet hair clinging a bit awkwardly to her face. Indicating herself, she then made motions of gathering things that she plucked from the air into a container at her side. Then, she pantomimed drawing a bow back and shooting, and then the beginnings of gutting and cleaning.

She stopped then, crouching there with a pretend knife in her hand, and looked around at all of them. She indicated herself again, then spread her arms out to include all of them, and then the imaginary carcass on the floor.

With a sigh, hopping she would understand at least some of what she meant, she stepped back next to Tyr, casting kind of a pleading glance at him since he was the only one who had actually seen what she had done outside.

Seeing her eyes turn to him, Tyr stepped in to explain. “I believe that she is indicating that she is skilled in hunting, gathering, and preparing food and would be willing to share her abilities with all of us. I have seen that she has already put to good use the remains of yesterday’s creature, quite admirably.”

He continued, “As for myself, there is little other than my fighting skills to offer. My senses are sharper than a normal human and I my injuries heal at an accelerated speed. Perhaps I could hunt for food as well, though I will need a better tool for it than my staff.”

Figuring she should at least say SOMETHING, Ana sighed and glanced at the group, trying to keep Rory out of her direct line of vision.

"I'm not much of a hunter. Never had to, back where Hex and I come from. But being alchemists, we can make things, clothing, tools, whatever we need. If we've got the materials, we can do it. Also, I'm a fairly decent cook, and I work a lot with plants, so once I get a chance to get to look at the stuff outside and study it a bit, I might be able to get something else edible to grow."

She propped her chin up on her hand, and gestured to the big doors and the houses beyond.

"Also, we found that there's a house here, and might be more, that had some preserved fruits that are still good. Doing some scavaging might not be a bad idea at some point."

Unaware of Nei'ess's mapping abilties, Rory's eyebrows hitched a bit, clearly impressed, and his expression gradually brightened with each new advantage that was added to the roster. And although own skills in the lab, where he shone the brightest, were unmatched, he knew them to be of no practical application here. Damn. Well, he certainly wasn't the type to just hang about as an ornament, that was for sure. He refused to let that fact negate his efforts thusfar, and would continue to resist uselessness. He'd find a place to fit...

He acknowledged the talents one by one, concurring what their respective tasks would be, a small smile in his voice. "Right. Nei'ess, I'd say your preference for placing here is secured, and we'll have to organize a party later to set up the signals at the arrival points. When we get spare time to acquire more animals, Micas can teach us how to handle them, and Hex and An--"

Cut off mid-sentence by a shrill beeping tone, Rory made a visible jerk, drawing his vibrating journal from his pocket, quickly mashing the 'replay' button for all to hear the gentle southern words garbled by the erratic reception.

Greetings, Rory. Your message showed up on our journals as well. I'm Booker Crane and there are now three of us together here at this military base. I don't think we are close enough to attend, even if two of us were not too injured to make the trip anyway. I hope your meeting goes well and I would be interested in at least sharing information when we can.

"I'd say the first scouting mission starts now, guys. Anyone up for a search and rescue?"

Ares was feeling ever more irritable as she realized how grossly unequipped she was in comparison to the others. What useful skills did she have? She could cook and sew and garden. Those all seem to have been covered by the red-haired girl. She could butcher, but apparently the invisible woman had that already attended to.

... She could speak Latin, she could play piano, she could waltz, she could balance finances... All would be immensely useful here, she was sure. ... She could scout. She could see the city from above... She could hang a sign around her neck that said 'Please shoot me.' As had been demonstrated not an hour earlier, the advance of a 20-foot wingspan tended to inspire aggression.

After Rory's PDA finished its monologue however, Ares chewed on her lip for a moment before deciding. There didn't seem to be hostile natives with the technology to take her out of the air, and if there were only a small number of other people, then statistics were in her favor for not being shot down...

'I can get there fast,' she said quietly, the brim of her hat shadowing her face. 'And I can heal them.'

Nei'ess was surprised when Ares offered her assistance. She did not seem like a friendly caring sort. Still, it was nice to see everyone doing their part to help others here. He felt a desire to go himself since there were injured people and he could also map the base that way.

He looked at Ares. By flying? That's how you got here, isn't it? That would probably be safest and fastest then, especially if you are capable of healing others. I would go myself, as a healer and to map, but I am not fast at all.

Going alone wouldn't be good though. He ran his hand through his hair, thinking. I can send one of my sprites along as a guide and maybe some of the rest of us could follow at a slower pace?

"I can fly," Hardy spoke up, raising his hand slightly and glancing at Ares, "I can go along with you to assist. Only if you want me to, though."

Ares regarded the boy. He obviously wasn't human if he was claiming flight, which meant that she had no idea of his capabilities. He was timid though, soft-spoken. That was reassuring. She nodded. 'That will be fine.'
