Used to running, Zeke had stayed in his basement for only a few hours before fleeing the scene of his fight with the blue creature, loping like a wolf-mod across the shadowed city.

He didn't know where he was going, or what he'd do, but even so, he always kept a silver eye out, considering possibilities for food, shelter or weapon against who- or whatever lived here. And if no one did, then all the better to keep an eye out, for his stomach's sake. Hunting right may get him a decent meal yet.

And just as he was suspecting that there really was no one else around, a shadow that was definitely not inanimate crossed his path, driving him to a sudden halt and freeze, staring straight ahead from where it had come.

A person. One that Zeke probably wouldn't appreciate coming into contact with. Hunkering low, he skittered off to one side, ducking behind the corner of a building, ears up for once and straining to hear whatever he could while his muscles tensed to the point of quivering.

Archturous' body turned seamlessly, flowing from one action to the next. A slight shift in balance and she her body was both in a defensive crouch and had her cursed arm in the ready position, in case she needed to defend. The Lamassu looked at the creature before them, and was rather perplexed, for no where on the hundreds of worlds that he had traveled to had he seen something quite like what was in front of him now. It was not a person, but also not an animal. A hybrid of sorts? Archturous' mouth pulled at the corners as the brow creased slightly ( ... )

Maybe it wasn't human, the way it talked; large words and though it had seen him, it hadn't moved, but Zeke didn't like throwing caution to the wind. He'd done it too much to believe that it worked anymore.

Slinking, he ducked even lower, almost crawling, and hurried himself down the side of the building, though luck was not with him and held no door or window to it. He had to rise to a crouch to keep as close to the wall as possible while he edged around the corner.

Tail a bottlebrush, he breathed out through his nose, ears now flicking back to take in what he could. Silence, he hoped, after this, would be the best option, and he almost wanted to thank science for giving him his blasted paws.

Archturous's body straightened up, relaxing the defensive pose. 'Odd', the Lamassu thought as he watched the strange beastling backing away, 'Could it not understand the human tongue? Perhaps it knows another language? Ah well. Now is not the time to be wondering over such trivial items.' The curse markings on Archturous' arms slowly faded in their intensity, returning to the color of dried blood. Now that the curse was not 'armed', the Lamassu could continue his exploration of this place.

"Well... I do not know if you can understand me, but I wish you well, beastling. You are not human, so you pose no threat and no reward to me." With that, she turned and began slowly walking away, still cautious of the beast behind, but also studying the surroundings, attempting to form a mental map of this blasted place.

The parting comment caused Zeke to suck in a breath, an anguished stab twisting his gut. Not human.

He swallowed, still unused to such flippantly cruel words even after so many years. Drawing another slow, calming attempt of a breath, and hearing the footsteps now fading away, he let himself slide down the side of the building, knees buckling as he hunched and tucked his tail closer.
