Tina just stood there and blinked. She stared at the door that Odessa went through so abruptly, then down the stairs that Sierra had descended. Finally she turned to Booker. "Are things always this way here? So divided?" She blinked once more. "Maybe I should consider the theory that this is an asylum and I'm mad one more time."

But Odessa had been so convincing, so sure. And that red sky seemed no figment. This was going to be more of a challenge than she had thought.

"You'll have to forgive them. Aside from Odessa, most of us have been here for a week or less. We pretend to be close, but we still step on each other's toes a lot." Booker sighed, standing and placing his now-empty bowl near the pot to be cleaned later. "We worry and try to survive, which most of us can't do alone. And we don't really want to see anyone else die either, but Odessa puts our safety first over anyone else, and always will. Sierra is a lot nicer. And me, I'm just practical, I guess ( ... )

"I'll just clean up a bit, I guess," Tina called after Booker. The man had given her some food for thought. Odessa sat beneath her makeshift cover on the roof of their little hideaway, feet kicked up on an old ammo crate, arms crossed over her stomach. The rifle lay against her hip, at the ready.

She glanced toward Booker as he sat down beside her lawn chair, giving a small blink and a tilt of her head. Her features were mostly hidden by her poncho, but visible enough.

"Of course I am. Why wouldn't I be?"

Booker shrugged, leaning back to look up at the cloudy red sky. "I worry, that's all, and you left there rather sharply. It's little scenes like that which remind me how short a time we've known each other and makes me wonder how well I really know any of you."

He paused long enough that it almost seemed like he wouldn't continue and then he added, "I respect your caution though. Maybe most of the people who show up will be nice and friendly, but all it takes is one wrong person and we'd all be dead. I just keep hoping such a person never shows up here."
