Actually, I'm a fairly hard case and you don't sound fluffy to me at all. Instead you sound practical, sincere and willing to do a bit more than the average.

Spending time specifically researching the sabbats, especially if you can find local traditions to your area and in keeping with the Southern Hemisphere inverted Wheel of the Year will likely do you very well. I'm afraid I'm woefully ignorant of such in Australia, so its hard to guide you.

I've very fond of "Wheel of the Year: Living the Magical Life" by by Pauline Campanelli (Author), Dan Campanelli (Illustrator) for sabbatic crafts and traditions.

***I like the books by Dorothy Morrison. She is very well researched, writes just like she talks, and she is a hoot! Also Scott Cunningham. Those are the books I started out with.

What would make the celebrations less mundane to you? More meaning to the ritual? More decorations? A heart-felt talk with your deity(ies)? Start with what would bring that extra depth to what you want, and go from there. If you don't have any idea at this point, experiment. It may be taking a little extra time to get ready for ritual, or baking a special food for each holiday to get you in the mood. Whatever it is, have fun!
