So today we went to watch Kingdom of Heaven and it was great! Well, the movie wasn't that great (the constant change in the battle scenes between real-time and slow-motion annoyed me. Because unfortunately Ridley Scott is no Tsui Hark) but we had a lot of fun because we're retarded (Manu's comment when Sibylla liftet the mask: "Argh! Darth Vader ( Read more... )

I've heard a rumor that maybe Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch might be licensed by Del Rey in the U.S. (the manga that is). I think the German publisher of it is connected with Del Rey. Perhaps DR might have Eden no Hana too, it would seem like something they would be interested in...since they're publishing Othello and Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge..

Yup, you're right. Randomhouse is the 'mother company' of both, Del Rey and Heyne, the German publisher. So I think it's possible that Eden no Hana will be published in the US too (actually I'm surprised that it's one of the few manga we have that's not out in the US. Yet). However here there are two different companies who publish Othello and Yamato Nadeshiko (Othello is out by a German company, Yamato Nadeshiko is published by the German branch of Tokyopop for some reason).

Hi doinkies. I know you've friended me already, so sorry if I haven't commented on any of your posts yet. I haven't been able to check my friends list in ages. Anyway, I am sooooooo out of the manga and anime loop... But I do recognize your Mizuiro Jidai icon. That is such a sweet manga/anime. ^_^

Nearly dies in happiness *_*. Damn...Binetsu Shojo is from Shogakukan. Why it can't also by from Kodansha? Nya...I'm thankful for EnH.

Hey, you never know! Maybe if EnH sells well some other publishers will also start a manga line... Bastei (though the quality would probably suck x_X)? Goldmann? Ullstein? Arena? Never give up hope! ^_~ I mean, who would have thought one or two years ago that Heyne would ever publish mangas?

Considering BineSho's from Shogakukan, I bet that when it gets licensed in the U.S., it'll be riding on the Viz express (especially since Viz is publishing Kare: First Love there). XD

Given the quality of some manga here (depending on the publisher. Especially the German publisher of Kare ><) I'd probably get the Viz-version anyway...

I_am_that_old. :P~~~

Does the German cover have a dust jacket? That's interesting.

Heh. Sorry. But then, sometimes I sort of wish I was that old because it must have been pretty amazing (seeing it for the first time EVER). Yeah, I'm strange like that ^^;;

Well, it does have a dust jacket, sort of. It's hard to explain. It's like a regular paperback cover and a part folds inside like the Japanese covers. I like that solution because though I like the Japanese covers I'm a really clumsy person and so my dust jackets usually get wrinkled, ripped or damanged in some other way -_-;; I made a scan and uploaded it for you here ^^

Hehe. The action scenes were a bit disorienting, weren't they? And the Darth Vader comment is spot on. I can't understand why Sibylla is dressed that way though. If she's the brother of the king, won't that make her a Christian woman? I don't think a templar would have agreed to a marriage with a Muslim woman, even for political power. After all, don't they have something in the Bible about not marrying infidels? Of course, that was the interpretation during those times. Eva Green didn't look right in those clothes. And even with the kohl overkill, she still looks Caucasian because her freckles were all over the place.

Episode 3! Wai! Can't wait. It starts showing on the 18th over here.

You know what I'm really wondering about (it has nothing to do with the historical accuracy of the movie, because I know that it's right in that aspect)? How was it that Balduin (or Baldwin) got leprosy? A few years ago I read that you have to stay very close to someone infected for at least a few months to catch it. So how came that they let their precious prince near lepers? Repeatedly or even for a longer time? I just don't get it and I can't find any reliable sources about that topic ( ... )

Hmmm. Maybe it was direct contact through an open wound?

I thought that most historical movies don't portray the templars favorably? Well, at least in Ivanhoe-type stories they're always the corrupy baddies.

I read in a review in the papers that Sibylla was actually hapilly married to Guy (Maton Csokas! He looks completely different sans the silver haired Celeborn wig) so the love affair between her and Balin was likely historical license. Oh, and did you know that Baldwin was being played by Edward Norton in an uncredited role?

BTW, read my last two posts. Don't know if I could call it a good development, but oh well...

Hm. I didn't think of that. I guess it's possible. Poor kid, though O_o

Well, maybe there's a difference between US movies and TV series and movies here because usually the templars here are the good guys. Might be an European thing... Recently there were many documentaries about them on TV.

Edward Norton was uncredited? I didn't know that ^^;; I didn't really read through the credits but he appeared at the Wiki page for the movie (yes, there already is one ^^;;;;).

Yeah, I read them. And commented *nods*
