What is this madness? Audio recordings / "Pod fic?"

Maybe those of you who like this kind of thing can enlighten me, but, really?  Or better yet, maybe I should actually listen to one of these before considering my opinion on the subject cemented...

I, academically, can understand why people might enjoy listening to pod fic.  Number one, I'm sure, is being able to load it onto your ipod/whatever and ( Read more... )

fic (kinda), random speculation

And that's exactly the reason I've never dared to listen to any either. :'3 Though I suppose one could try to start with an audiofic without any...as you said, naughty parts. If such were to be found, that is. =3=

I know! It's a bit like 'calling it before I see it,' but I think it would just weird me out too much. Fanfiction, at any rate. I'd probably enjoy an older British gentleman narrating a Sherlock Holmes audiobook or something (lol!), but fanfiction, eeeeghh, I don't think I could handle that. ',:/

Not a fan of podfic, myself, because I'd rather read than be read to, and also because hearing things in someone else's voice screws around with my ability to hear the character voices, but hell. Download one or two and see how YOU like it. You might. To each her own, I say. ^^

Yeah, exactly what you said. I dunno, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like it, if only because I'm not that enthused about being read to at all.

I like audiobooks, but I don't think I could ever listen to a naughty or erotic one, and I'm 99% sure I couldn't listen to podfic, either. I prefer reading for myself in most cases. But then, I've heard several people say they really like podfic, so...

Er...

Wombats are cute!

I used to listen the fuck out of a Lady and the Tramp audiobook cassette tape for kids when I was little, but I haven't tried on in years. Like I mentioned to stalkerbunny, maybe I'd enjoy an audiobook of Sherlock Holmes read by a stately British gentleman, hohoho, but even that isn't a guarantee.

I guess it probably has much to do with what kind of "learner" a person is--and as I've always been the type that has to SEE something to really get a handle on it, I consequently feel like I have to see my stories for them to resonate...

I'm a read/write learner, but I still like (good) audiobooks read by the right person. The reader makes aaaaaaaall the difference for me.

Yeah ... not for me.

I would totally feel weird listening to a female voice (in fanfic, let's be honest, it's mostly going to be women reading) describing the sexual antics of Gojyo and Hakkai. Even if if was gen, it would sound weird.

I just ... when I'm reading, I imagine the characters' voices. I think listening to another voice would totally ruin it for me. It would just take me out of it, if that makes sense.

Yes! I mean, the attraction is in their forbidden, marginalized love manliness...and to have a woman reading it would kill it, for me. I can't state with certainty whether the same would hold true for, say, a naughty story narrated by a (homosexual) male, but I'm not really one to like being read to, period.

Whether an academic study, IKEA assembly instructions, or a good old gay fanfic, I'd much rather physically see the words for myself, and interpret them as I feel proper. I'd rather have the text colored with my own inflection and best judgement, and not anyone else's.
