He didn’t say, “I’m hungry,” because really, he wasn’t.

He didn’t say, “Come find me,” because honestly, he wasn’t sure if there was ever anyone else.  Maybe he was the only one, and this was how it’d always been.

He didn’t say, “I’m lonely,” because he didn’t know it was any different from, “I am.”  At least until one day a bird fluttered

Oh. Heartbreaking. As Goku's situation is, and as delicately dealt with.

He didn’t say, “I’m lonely,” because he didn’t know it was any different from, “I am.” --> this line just killed me. It nearly brought tears to my eyes.

That call between them is subtle and compelling and you've captured both the intensity of it and the way they both bury the knowledge of that intensity deep.

Honestly, if the boy didn't go altogether nuts in that cell it's some sort of miracle. Ironic, isn't it, that Sanzo claims to be suffering from "solitude and insanity" when Goku has to deal with more of both than he ever did?

eeee thank you very much! I wrote this back a few months ago when there seemed to be a lot of discussion about the nature of Sanzo and Goku's "mental link", but I forgot about it until i ran across it yesterday and decided i didn't hate it. ^^;;; I like the idea that it's not so much a literal "voice" as that was the best way Sanzo could describe it.

Ironic, isn't it, that Sanzo claims to be suffering from "solitude and insanity" when Goku has to deal with more of both than he ever did? I love that their poor lonely hearts were so in sync! ♥♥♥ ohhhh their total love for each other makes my heart hurt sometimes! X)

I love the way you compared and contrasted the different reactions to the mutual voice they share. It was intense and it said so much in such a short piece. Poetic and artfully written. *le sigh* The way you demonstrated that intensity and depth gave me goosebumps. Seriously.

eeeee! ♥ thank you very much! i tend to hide files i write on my computer so soli will never see them and make fun of me even though my computer is my own and password protected and no one uses it but me. Oo;;; ahaha, and as a result i also tend to forget about and lose things in sock puppet folders with file titles like, "lab report 3"... anyway, point being that i stumbled across this recently and thought oh! this isn't so horrible... perhaps i'll go post it. :d i think i must have written it quite a while ago, inspired by back when there was a lot of discussion about Sanzo and Goku's "mental link".

Goku's answer when Sanzo pressed him, "I know I said I wasn't but I guess I was always callin' in my heart." in the burial arc just always struck me so powerfully! i think we can probably all relate to some degree with the feeling of desperately yearning for something in our hearts, and kicking up the intensity of that feeling, to nearly unbearable heights, was my
