Peter was outside, away from the bustle the castle had become. It was Lu's seventeenth birthday on Tuesday - Queen Lucy the Valiant, that is - and Su had insisted in throwing a ball, and inviting all of their friends, Mr. Tumnus and the Archenlanders, of course, and quite a few of the nearby folk. The dryads and naiads would come and dance, of course - they were so fond of her.
But that was what he had come outside to get away from, after all. There was a light breeze, and Peter let his thoughts drift as he walked. There were things that needed to be done, and Su would probably want his opinion on a half-dozen things the moment he set foot back in the castle, but for now he was free as a bird.
Unlike humans, even talking Squirrels get up at sunrise, for some habits are hard to get rid of. He'd been up in his tree house when he saw a human enter the forest from the direction of the beach. Further watching led him to find one of the Kings or Queens

"Well, the dryad means mischief I'm sure, but I don't think anyone's told the other one yet. The human was trying to dry off and the Rowan girl took one of her things, all in good fun really." Which is why the squirrel was laughing in the first place. Squirrels are quick to laughter as they are to run from danger, and as everyone in the country knows, that's pretty quick. "A Daughter of Eve?" That was strange - had it been an Archenlander the Squirrel would have recognized her, and she would have known of the dryads.
"Does she mean to hurt the dryad, or is this simple mischief?"
