Last weekend was the department retreat. Ok, that's not quite right. It was the biochemistry department retreat, which is part of the chemistry department and all of us first years were pretty much required to go regardless of our division. All of the talks where on heavy biochemistry. Some were interesting, but I really don't give a toss about

Why is it that all social events require copious amounts of alcohol?Yes, really! Why? Whyyyyyy must there be so much booze involved all the time? Don't people like each other enough to spend time together without getting totally plastered? Students from my dept. are putting on a party this weekend so that everyone in the department can meet each other (hence, I feel obligated to attend), but we've already been informed of places we can crash for the night in/near the apt where it's being held, since it's expected that not one person will be sober enough to drive afterwards. I'm really trying to think of a good excuse not to go because as much as I should meet everyone, that does NOT sound like Good Times to me
