What is the floor made of?

One big sheet of super-thick commercial-environment vinyl. There's no top layer; it's this colour and random pattern all the way down. Expensive, but I needed so little that it became worth it. (You can spend more per unit if the unit count is small, which it is here. Very small.)

In this environment, it'll last decades.

Ah ha ha and it really is the best part, brava! I grew up in a house with weirdly lurid red sparkly surfaces in the kitchen and any time we came back from vacation it always looked SO RED. As an adult I kind of miss that aesthetic ;)

oh no - the countertop is formica-like material from 1958. I with you could still get that now, it's lovely.
