Shutter Island

Last night I went out to see the new film Shutter Island and I'm glad that I did.  For a while I was on the fence as to whether I wanted to catch it in the theatres or wait until it hit video.  I think I've stated which of those options I eventually settled on, so I'll move on ( Read more... )

Wow, I definitely want to see this movie. I heard them talking about it on the radio on the way to work and some people were saying it was kind of a cop-out of films like "The Departed" since it had DiCaprio starring and Scorcese directing it. But hey, if a director and an actor go well together, why not make another film with them?

I don't think I'd ever call it a cop-out when a director finds an actor she/he likes to work with. Scorcese has had DiCaprio in all his films since Gangs of New York, and he does well in all of them. Though, sometimes a director can overuse and actor. I will maintain that Johnny Depp was a poor choice for Willy Wonka, but oh well.

I was so glad the previews didn't give everything away. I hate 3 minute movies. It was a really great mystery thriller and I liked that you didn't really know what was going on until the very end.

I actually like seeing a movie where a director has repeat cast members.
Decaprio has been in several Scorcese movies.--I'm so glad he didn't look like a teeny bopper otherwise he wouldn't have pulled off bein Fed Marsh Teddy Daniels. Russel Crowe is in a lot of Ridley Scott movies, Michael Caine has been in 4 Christopher Nolan movies. I think this is Johnny Depps 7th time working with Burton. Some actors and directors just click.

I agree, if a director has an actor they like, it's usually for good reasons. It's very rare that I don't agree with it.

Have you seen The Crazies yet? That one ended up being better than I expected.

That one was way better than I expected! I watched it cause I luv Rhada Mitchel from Pitch Black and cause Timothy Olyphant is fantastic in Deadwood. I figure, how can I go wrong? You can't. It was awesome ^-^

I've been playing catch up with my the movies. Saw Percy Jackson. The book was better and the movie pretty much butchered it. Not my favorite.

Seen Valentine's Day--good for being a V-day flick.

Just saw Dear John. It didn't make me cry like I thought it would and honestly I didn't much care for it. Best parts were the scenes with the main character's dad.

Wolfman was amazing! That's my favorite. It was just so good. They really do look like the original wolfman, but it's not cheesy.

I haven't seen Alice yet, but I will eventually. I just don't want to pay to see 3D. It's been pretty busy here.

I don't think Valentine's Day even played out here. I haven't seen or heard anything on it.

I'm not sure how I feel about The Wolf Man. I was impressed that they gave it the look and feel of the old one, but he was always my least favourite of the Universal monster movies (The Invisible Man was the best).

Right now I'm hoping I'll be able to see the new Elm Street before I leave. It comes out on April 30th, and I'm flying out either that day or May 1st.
