Mercy versus Severity

cc'ed to scarletmagdalen.

I had intended scarletmagdalen to be my public blog to discuss my thoughts and views on the Great Work. The problem with this is that I do a lot of deeply intense, personal work and I not only don't publicize that, but it goes into select filters on my LJ here ( Read more... )

An interesting statistical analogy... guidopaganos July 17 2008, 20:01:19 UTC
...when thinking about the pillars and the left,right,center...

...in the realm of statistics where variance is both your friend and the bitch from the wrong side of the tracks at times, central tendency is still the most accepted and widest reported measure of analysis. Now, that tendency can be brought about by equally polarized variance at both end of the distribution, which create a false sense of a centrally balanced point or mean, or it can derive from a true concentration upon the honest mid-point of the entire variance distribution field.

I would argue both have their own truth, but the more complete is the latter of these two; the average that is just that and incorporates the mid-point of the influence of not just the two tails but of all values.

Can ya tell where my brain is right now?...lol

Great post :)

Thanks, glad you enjoyed!

I expected a ton of flames, but interestingly enough the feedback's all been pretty positive to this post. I hope it's circulated far and wide.

This crap is why I left my religious community. For serious.

I totally agree. People who come to me for help are always surprised that I am easy to talk to. They start out intimidated. I don't believe in lording it over people, unless they get in my face with superior bullshit, and then of course I can posture with the best of 'em. heh. But it's such a waste of time.

I don't think you're alone in being part of this "new breed" of kindness and compassion. Of course, I don't think it's a "new breed" -- we've just been hiding our compassionate sides from those who are busy trampling others in a rush to get to the end of the race first.

I relate to what you're saying. I quit partipating in forums a few years ago; I don't have much in common with other ritual magicians.

I hope it's okay if I add you to my f-list, I'd like to read your blog.
