Purple Kirtle

I'm about 90% finished with the purple kirtle! I just need to fix the hem and possibly add more trim. I'm not sure if I want to add the vertical black trim on the shoulder straps, since it looks okay as is ( Read more... )

Very pretty! I love the color and I agree, nice linen is very fun to work with, unfortunately not all linen is created equal! :P I'd like to know how you did the boning for the bodice as I'm not happy with my corded bodice on mine. I might re-do it or just know for next time. :) Oh, and your cartridge pleating looks great!

I used spring steel corset boning on the entire front, with the bones inserted similar to a corset. 8 .5" bones in the center, with 4 .25" bones farther out- the bones extend to the outside of my boobs, right before my armpit. It's very sturdy and comfortable! I might never want to make another 16th century dress that needs a corset again!

Thanks! I really like this kirtle! Normally I stay away from anything that's not court garb but realistically, kirtles are too awesome to not make!
