Here's a weird thing: since Feb. 8th I've gotten e-mails telling me about new comments on three (so far) stories I posted in spred. The e-mails show me what the comments are, but when I look at them in the actual spred community posts, they aren't there. The comments are all in Russian, from LJ accounts that are also in Russian. I ran the comments ( Read more... )

RUSSIAN SPIES ARE TRYING TO RESURRECT THE SPRED SHIP!

::cough:: Probably not, right? I find it interesting that they have all the same looking journals. They don't list any other friends other than their own journals and belong to the same writers' block community. They don't have Spred friended, so it's curious how they found you.

HOWEVER - how did I completely and totally miss your Cycle Series? Thank you, Russian Spies, for giving me something to read, whee!

LMAO SQUEEEEEEEEEE WE NEED ALL THE HELP WE CAN GET!

Boris and Natasha no longer wish to get Moose and Squirrel. They're too busy reading our fanfic.

I know, right? It's such an obscure community nowadays (sadly), and I'm curious to learn how they randomly picked me.

Oh, neat! I wrote it awhile back, in spurts and dribbles, I think initially in response to a writing challenge somewhere (can't quite remember the details.) I was hoping that it would make writing my long fic's chapters a little easier, but I've decided that nothing will help on that score! ;)

I've been getting comments like that, usually on old posts, off and on for the past few years. I simply delete them,

Yeah, that's what I thought was especially strange; the posts are fairly old, and in such a small and pretty obscure community. You'd think that spammers would rather frequent a high-traffic area! (I ought to e-mail them back and say "DUDE. NOBODY'S HOME.")

They're probably spambots. I think I read somewhere that in order to get around LJ's spam filter, the spambots start off making a bunch of generic posts like these; once enough people have marked those as "not spam", LJ's filter ignores them and they can start posting about Viagra, penis enlargement, mail order brides, etc.

Well, as I'm running low on mail-order brides, maybe I should contact them and see if they sell 'em in bulk. Let me just freshen my lipstick and put on my gloves and get my purse and shopping bag...

Looks as if LJ's picking them off as fast as they're created. By the time I see the comment alerts on my e-mail, they've vanished from the actual posts. Yay! If any do stay on the posts, I'll alert LJ that they're spam.

It's just spam, I get those constantly over at westsidestory and I just delete them.

That's what I figured. LJ seems to be deleting them for me so far!
