I work tech support, and am subjected to this all the time from callers. I don't care about the story, tell me what I can do to help you. The faster you can do that the faster I can help.
I can't stand the type of people who need to tell a story full or odd information in order to ask a question that has nothing to do with anything they said.

The temptation to just hang up on callers who get passive-aggressive, or belligerent, or just plain rude and abrupt... nearly irresistible, some days.

I really do prefer my interactions to be polite and specific. So much simpler.
