I swear, this picspam was put together exclusively because I have found myself confused, on more than one occasion, by the nature on Cara and Triana's relationship and not because the sight of Cara being all Mord'Sith-y makes me happy in my pants I wish to distract the fandom from the more pressing matter such as squeeing over how adorable Bridget ( Read more... )

Loyalty is paramount for every Mord'Sith, as I understand it. Loyalty to their Sisters as well as to Lord Rahl. If Cara and Triana were ever lovers (and here I mean lovers in every sense of the word, not just sexytiem buddies), then her back stabbing Cara the way she had is nothing but cowardly, and that's not how Mord'Sith roll. But if they were never lovers and Triana came at Cara the way she had because she wanted to make a point as well as please her Lord Rahl, well, that just makes her a bitch.

Perhaps she really did care for Triana, because her reaction in 1x22 certainly seems to show a lot of FEELINGS. Cara at that point was annoyed with emotions in general - Kahlan crying with the sword, Leo and his dumb flower, etc ( ... )

That Cara and Dahlia were in love was pretty clearly stated in canon. But Triana/Cara is, at first (subtly) shown as the type of connection we now know Cara had with Dahlia, and then completely flipped into them being adversaries. They should have just named season 2 Triana by some other name and then named Dahlia's character Triana and all this would be just perfect.

Could we really see Cara as someone who is pining and having a crush and does nothing about it? Well, for anyone else besides Kahlan, of course, but that's a whole another set of rules that apply. She seems like someone who just steps in and takes whatever it is that she wants. That kind of attitude probably is one of the reasons she was ranked so high (or wait, is that just fanon?). Anyway. The whole HBIC thing totally stands, but then, look at her with Dahlia: it's after she had been thrown out of the sisterhood so she now has so much more of herself to prove, but she doesn't. Maybe it just because she's listening to Richard's orders, and maybe it because she genuinely cares for Dahlia and lets herself be vulnerable around her. One thing she did not let happen with Triana. And in connection to her reaction in Reckoning, that is what is confusing.

I would go with Cara being high ranked as Canon, afterall she was a Mord'Sith in attendance to Lord Rahl. You have to be pretty far up the food chain to be assigned to your ruler personally. Also, she was obviously well-established enough to be able to voice her opinion to him directly. (season 1 ( ... )

I actually like your 'pet' theory. Those Mord'Sith are an odd bunch, anything's possible.

Yes. This right here, what you just wrote. so_wicked May 20 2010, 18:38:42 UTC
This whole "confusion" (or call it inconsistency) would have been avoided by calling season 2 Triana something else. And then in Eternity, the character of Dahlia could have been called Triana and the reaction to Triana's death in Reckoning would have been perfectly understandable. This way it just makes me watch certain episodes several more times, search for screencaps and make picspams. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, at all. :)

Exactly, if S2 Triana had been anyone else, it would have worked out beautifully, and the show peeps would have had the best, longest continuity call back in forever.
