[There's a bit of a static feed as the journal turns on, and Shiki doesn't say anything for a moment. She's busy reading over everything from the last few days, but she finally decides to talk to the village at large.]So. Hypothetical question. ...how long is too long to wait? For people, for objects, for anything. Give me your thoughts on this ( Read more... )

shiki's being thoughtful, autumn decorating, still unaware of other things, nekuuuuuu :(

It all depends on the person doing the waiting and what or who they're waiting for.

It's someone who's been here a while, waiting for a person who was here for a while but has just left. Does that help?

A little, though it still depends on how long the person can stand to wait.

I suppose the other question is if the person is waiting without doing anything or if he or she is able to move on in life while waiting.

Forever, if need be.

They're keeping busy. It's kind of useless to just sit by the barrier and wait, right? But I would't call it really moving on.

Do I even need to bother putting up an act around you? [Rhetorical question, of course.] You know how long I'm willing to wait, but I think Haruhi'll get mad.

It's not. Trust me, it's not. How could it hurt anyway?

[Well, since so many people are answering Shiki's more serious question...]

I like the different decorations, like the carved pumpkins. We don't do those things back home. [pause] I guess the costumes are ... interesting, too.

[Oh Leon. You just gave Shiki a million ideas.]

You know what? You and I should carve pumpkins when it gets closer to Halloween. Maybe convince Haruhi to let the whole Brigade do it. What do you think?

That'd be kinda cool. [He's never done crafting quite like that, but how hard could it be?] I wonder if there'd be that many pumpkins available, though? They are pretty big.

We'll find some. It can't be that hard, right? Maybe Haruhi will know where to get some. [That, or she can wish them into reality.] You've never really done the Halloween kind of stuff before?

There isn't a preset time. I waited months before I found my jitte. And I'm still waiting for my Ensign.

Okay a jitte I know about, but what's an Ensign? [Someone's not too familiar with military terms.]

I'm surprised you've even heard of jittes.

My Ensign is my second in command, Tashigi. It might be better that she's not here, but it still seems strange to have her suddenly missing from my life.

I think I read about it somewhere.

So she's your partner. I totally get that...it's hard to imagine spending every day without that person to fall back on. Think she'll ever show up here?

Is there something good about Halloween?

[She's pretty sure what she's talking about is unrelated to the experiment from last year, but she spent her only Halloween ever shut up in her house going slightly mad with her best friend, also going slightly mad, as they tried to keep at least one of them sane enough to look after a little kid with the limited aid of an unreliable amnesiac.

Yeah, it wasn't much fun, and the question more or less fills her with slight dread.]

Yeah...it just usually doesn't happen around here. I think the best part is all of the free candy and the fancy costumes.
